Bogen om arkitekten Grethe Meyer er en levende og personlig fortælling om et komplekst og arbejdsomt kvindeliv i en tid, hvor den moderne tilværelse skulle indrettes ude i de mange små lejligheder og nybyggede parcelhuse. Grethe Meyer kæmpede for at forene sine kompromisløse ambitioner med familieliv og kompliceret kærlighed, og biografien er en kilde til forståelse for hendes designs og deres væsentlighed i den tid, de skriver sig ind i.Grethe Meyer var en af de få kvinder, som insisterede på sit talent og sine ideer, og hun gav os bl.a. Boligens Byggeskabe og servicerne ‘Blåkant’ og ’Ildpot’, der stod på rekordmange danske spiseborde gennem flere årtier. In 1931, the English designer Gerald Summers (1899-1967)-creatorof the iconic bent plywood armchair -and his partner, Marjorie Butcher (1909-1996), opened their London shop, Makers of Simple Furniture. For almosta decade until closing in 1940, the firm produced hundreds of ingenious designs in plywood. Conceived, in Gerald's words, as "furniture for the concrete age," this singular body of work shaped the notion of the modern interior in Britain. Gerald Summers & Marjorie Butcher: Makers of Simple Furniture, 1931-1940 tells for the first time the compelling story of the firm and its dedicated proprietors. Drawingon Marjorie's vivid recollections and a wealth of unpublished material-including never-before-seen images, personal correspondence, workshop documents, and illustrated specification sheets-the book reveals the magnitude of their achievements and restores a neglected chapter in the history of modern design.  This publication is made possible in part by a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts. GERALD SUMMERS (1899-1967) is one of the foremost furniture designers of the twentieth century. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he worked as an engineer before starting his design career. In 1931, he and his partner, MARJORIE BUTCHER (1909-1996), opened Makers of Simple Furniture in London. They managed the firm for almost ten years, producing hundreds of pieces for the modern home. In 1940, wartime exigencies brought an end to the enterprise. They redirected their energy to Gerald Summers Ltd., a supplier of engineering parts. MARTHA DEESE is an authority on Gerald Summers. She earned a master's degree in decorative art history from Cooper-Hewitt Museum/Parsons School of Design, New York, and worked for three decades as an administrator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Her groundbreaking article on Summers and his firm, Makers of Simple Furniture, published in the Journal of Design History in 1992, remains the principal source on the designer.

BUREAU, with offices in Geneva and Lisbon, is directed by architects Daniel Zamarbide and Carine Pimenta, and visual artist, designer, and art educator Galliane Zamarbide. The practice operates at the intersection of architecture, scenography, design, landscape design, and education. Founded in 2012, the firm focuses on building new and converting existing structures, interior design and furniture, exhibition design, inhabitable sculptures, and temporary pavilions. Their buildings and interventions feature spatial experiments, unusual shapes and perspectives, and play with the time factor as well. BUREAU thus navigates across the traditional boundaries of architecture, design, visual art, architectural teaching, and cultural education. Short Stories is the first survey of the firm's work to date. The first book, accompanying a traveling exhibition, dedicated to Cuban mid-century design anchored by an under-acknowledged collection of graphic design, prototypes, and furniture, much of which has never been exhibited outside the island or published.Primarily focused on the post-revolutionary era of Cuba from the late 1950s through the 1970s, this volume brings together a prolific cohort of artists, designers, and architects that materialized the ideology of their time, and ultimately narrate the country’s arc from revolutionary promise to authoritarian retrenchment.  Design and architecture played an important role in shaping the country's identity and cultural expression during this time period. Consisting of nearly 100 works, including approximately 50 pieces of furniture, the exhibition and accompanying catalogue features seminal objects of functional design, architectural renderings, speculative prototypes for a “design for all” ethos, and key examples of art and graphic design that contributed to the zeitgeist of the era. Felice Rix-Ueno studierte bei Josef Hoffmann, einem Mitbegründer der Wiener Werkstätte (1903-1932). Inspiriert von der japanischen Formensprache bildete sie einen eigenen Stil aus, der sich in besonders fantasievollen Stoff- und Tapetenmustern, Mode- und Wohnaccessoires sowie Wandmalereien ausdrückte. The mashrabiya originated in the ancient world. As a scalable latticed window screen, whose intricate geometries developed with the spread of Islam, it provided ventilation, shade, and privacy to buildings.
