Selbstverständlich könnte man diese Fragestellung auch auf ganz Europa ausweiten. Die Hip-Hop-Kultur ist per se eine MigrantInnen-Kultur, zumal ihre Begründer im New York der 1970er Jahre vor allem Puerto-Ricaner und Afro-Amerikaner waren.Der Rap ¿ ein Teilbereich des Hip-Hop ¿ und seine deutsche Variante, der ¿Deutsch-Rap¿, repräsentiert durch bekannte und erfolgreiche deutsche Bands wie die ¿Fantastischen Vier¿, ¿Blumentopf¿, ¿Freundeskreis¿ oder ¿Fettes Brot¿, um nur einige zu nennen, hat es in Deutschland zu beträchtlichem Ansehen gebracht und ist auch in der deutschen Bevölkerung, vor allem auch beim Bildungsbürgertum, auf positive Resonanz gestoßen.Der ebenfalls in der Hip-Hop-Kultur verankerte Breakdance hingegen hat sich zu einer Minderheiten-Tanzrichtung entwickelt, die fast nur von MigrantInnen der zweiten Generation beziehungsweise Personen mit familiärem Migrationshintergrund, das heißt mit mindestens einem immigrierten Elternteil, ausgeübt wird.

Wie kaum eine andere Persönlichkeit des Kulturbetriebs hat Nele Hertling die künstlerische Entwicklung der Nachkriegszeit in Berlin und Deutschland mitgeprägt. In mehr als 60 Jahren erschuf sie durch ihren beharrlichen Austausch mit Künstler·innen und Kulturpolitiker·innen ein einzigartiges Netzwerk für den Tanz, das Theater und die Musik, aber auch für kulturpolitische Initiativen wie "A Soul for Europe" (2004). Diesem Lebenswerk ist die Publikation gewidmet, aber auch ihrer persönlichen und gesellschaftlichen Motivation, ihrer künstlerischen Vision eines Deutschlands, das seinen Weg aus der Traumatisierung durch soziale und politische Schuld und aus der Zerstörung der Kultur hin zu einer Perspektive in Europa immer neu gestalten muss.
