Den 11. oktober 1968 brød den småborgerlige forbrydertrio med Egon Olsen i spidsen for første gang ind i danskernes hjerter. I anledning af 50-året udkommer BOOK LAB med en mastodont af et hyldestværk. Med værket Olsen Banden tager filmredaktør og forfatter Christian Monggaard læseren med til Hotel Proust i Paris, hvor Erik Balling og Henning Bahs startede serien over en øl og en smøg. Han præsenterer hidtil ukendte manuskriptudkast, går bagom optagelserne til mange af filmenes ikoniske scener, og gør os klogere på, hvorfor så mange østtyskere i dag er fans. Og meget, meget mere. Alt sammen akkompagneret af usete billeder af filmfotograf Rolf Konow og farverige illustrationer. Den sky romantiker er beretningen om en af Danmarks helt store musikalske skikkelser – komponisten Kai Normann Andersen – hans værk og liv 1900-1967.Kai Normann Andersen var en meget beskeden mand, og det til trods for, at han havde nok at prale af. Han har komponeret i nærheden af 1000 melodier, og langt de fleste danskere kender mindst én af hans sange: Glemmer du, Man binder os på mund og hånd, I dit korte liv, Den allersidste dans, Den gamle skærslippers forårssang … og vi kender også dem, han arbejdede tæt sammen med: Liva Weel, Poul Henningsen, Marguerite Viby, Børge og Arvid Müller, Mogens Dam, Otto Lington, Poul Reichhardt ... og selvfølgelig hans partner gennem et langt liv Ellen Gottschalch. Kai Normann Andersen var dansker, men han elskede alt hvad der var fransk. Han forsynede os med mange af de revy- og filmsange, som i tre generationer er blevet sunget og fløjtet her i landet på gaden, på plade og i radioen. Det siges ofte, at hvis han havde været amerikaner, havde han indtaget Hollywood med hud og hår.
