Mother: "My dear William, you talk so much to me, why not write me a book." William: "That is too audacious."
"Coming From Me" is a collection of poems from the heart, mind, and life of Ronald Eugene Stokes. His works touch every aspect of the human experience, from family, love, and religion to nature and death. Each poem was composed as a labor of love for his family to honor those relationships and commemorate the special moments shared with each. Through his writings, Ron compels us to stop, contemplate, enjoy, and learn from every encounter.
"Many authors draw from headlines or movies rather than personal experience to write drug-related scenes, and the result may be more fiction than fact. So, how can you craft a convincing scene involving accidental use of fentanyl-tainted pot or a murder attempt with grandma's pain pills? A much-needed resource, The Grim Reader details how to write medical scenarios that result in realistic page-turners. As drug inaccuracies multiply in screenplays, scripts, novels, and audio plays, Dr. Miffie Seideman provides writers (and editors) with the background and authenticity necessary to develop plausible plotlines, including: Pertinent drug facts, tips, and symptoms, Symptom timelines, Tips for developing historically accurate scenes, Common street drug names and slang, Sample scenarios to demonstrate how to weave the information into a believable scene, Writing prompts to provide scene starters and offer practice. Combining Seideman's pharmacology knowledge with her love for creative writing, The Grim Reader is the ultimate guide to help authors craft accurate drug scenes and avoid medical mistakes"--

Essays in the Art of Writing Robert Louis Stevenson examines the techniques of writing, and gives insights into the writing of ""Treasure Island"" and ""The Master of Ballantrae."" CONTENTS: On Some Technical Elements of Style in Literature, The Morality of the Profession of Letters, Books Which Have Influenced Me, A Note On Realism, My First Book: ""Treasure Island,"" The Genesis of " "The Master of Ballantrae" " Robert Louis Stevenson Stevenson's life was almost as adventurous as the stories he created. He spent much of it as a traveler, writing about his exploits in such exemplary travel books as TRAVELS WITH A DONKEY IN THE CEVENNES. He studied law but never practiced he always wanted to write, and gave himself what amounted to a writing course, studying and copying the style and techniques of his favorite writers. His attempts paid off: his first published novel, TREASURE ISLAND, brought him money and fame. At 29 he fell in love with a married woman--alienating his family--and pursued her to California, where she divorced her husband, after which the couple married and traveled extensively in the U.S., visiting various spas and health resorts in search of a cure for the tuberculosis from which Stevenson suffered all his life. After extensive travel in the South Seas, he finally settled in Samoa, where he became involved in the lives and politics of the islanders. During all his wanderings, he continued to write, producing a total of 12 novels, many short tales, three plays, poetry (including the classic A CHILD'S GARDEN OF VERSES), and dozens of books of essays and travel pieces. He died in Samoa at 44--suddenly, of apoplexy, as he was making a salad for dinner--leaving his last book, THE WEIR OF HERMISTON, unfinished.

The author shares her insights on helping children develop essential social interaction skills. She acknowledges that some parents worry about their child's milestones and struggle to grasp some or all of the social interaction skills that are so crucial to their learning and development. However, she provides practical games and ideas that parents can use to improve their child's social interaction skills, such as attention, listening, play, eye contact, turn-taking, initiating interaction, conversational skills, following instructions, functional language, and non-verbal communication. Each chapter focuses on a specific age group, from 12 months to 5 years, but includes additional activities for slightly older children. The book also covers social stories and highlights the experiences of other parents and professionals to reassure parents that they are not alone. The author emphasizes that milestones are just guidelines and that parents should trust their instincts, as they know their child best. The social skills techniques are meant to be fun and quality time for parents and children.

Every bestselling story begins with an idea. But in the highly competitive publishing market how does a writer decide which ideas need telling and which stories to tell?As every writer knows, an idea is not a story. It's merely a spark, a memory, a current or historical event, a snapshot, an insight, a family story, a feeling. It's an iceberg that sinks an unsinkable passenger ship on a crystal clear night in the North Atlantic. But an iceberg sinking an unsinkable ship still isn't a story. It's just an idea. It's an historical event that lacks the ill-fated, forbidden romance between the beautiful, young, upper-class Rose DeWitt and the free-spirited, steerage passenger, Jack Dawson who, in that short voyage, teaches Rose that 'life is a gift', that 'she must make every day count' and, with his heroic, dying breath makes her promise she will survive the icy waters, and never give up on her life, no matter how dark or hopeless things become, giving Rose the courage to throw off the shackles of the suffocating Edwardian society that held her prisoner and, in the decades that followed, to make her life count.James Cameron's Titanic is a fully-realized story that came from a simple historical event. An idea.Ideas! We writers see them everywhere. But sorting through the clutter of ideas for the one that suggests the greatest story potential can be painful, time-consuming and frustrating. From First Spark to Blockbuster takes the pain out of brainstorming your next book! You'll learn how to:Brainstorm the Origins of Your IdeaReveal Why your Idea has Meaning to YouCompile a List of Theme WordsDevelop a Dynamic PremiseOrchestrate a Robust Cast of CharactersDevise an Elevator PitchJoin Award-Winning, USA Today Bestselling author, Linda Needham in this interactive brainstorming workshop-in-a-book, and turn your First Spark of an Idea into a bestselling work of fiction.

Save me from the Grave and Wise is an Irish folk song. Beethoven based his 7th symphony on the song's dread of dull scholarship and love of life, culminating in the exhilarating coda. This work has young Adeodatus, St. Augustine's bastard son, escaping his father's clutches. Augustine with Jerome and Ambrose are said the be the pillars of the Church. Their largely unreadable scholarship dominated European political thinking for over a millennium. Augustine wanted Adeodatus to following in his footsteps. Adeodatus had other ideas and thought his father personified the scribes and pharisees Jesus condemned as hypocrites.Set in late fourth century Milan, western capital of the Roman Empire at its height. Augustine was spokesman for the emperor and the imperial court, role model for elegant mannerisms in dress and deportment as well as in speech. Save me from the Grave and Wise is a lively read as well as a play for acting.
