12 Disturbing True Crime Stories of Murder and MayhemVolume 10 of the True Crime Case Histories Series (2022)Readers Love This Series - Over 7,000 Five-Star Ratings on Amazon & GoodreadsTrue crime is not for everyone. But chances are, if you've picked up this book, you already know that. Actual true crime is not like watching an episode of CSI. Even television true crime documentaries can skim over the sticky details. Real true crime can be unsettling for many people. However, I do my best not to leave out any details in my books. My intention isn't to shock but rather to give the reader a glimpse into the killer's mind. I don't begin to think that I can understand the mind of a diabolical monster, but I can guarantee that curiosity will keep us turning pages and endlessly searching for answers. Each story in my books requires hours of tedious research. I search through court records, old newspaper articles, police records, autopsy reports, and first-hand accounts. Although I may occasionally change a character's name or fictionalize bits of dialogue, these crimes really happened to real people. Sadly, this is the world in which we live. A sampling of the stories includes: A Sad Holiday Season - In the north of England, a sixteen-year-old girl disappeared after Christmas shopping with her friend. A massive manhunt led police to a serial killer who lived just blocks away from her home. Pretty in Pink - A teenage girl showed up at the door of a farmhouse bruised, bloody, and unable to remember how she got there. Investigators dug through the clues to uncover a bizarre love triangle and a gruesome murder. A Perfect Holiday - After her partner is sent to prison for molesting her eldest daughter, a mother will do anything to keep her two youngest children from being taken by social services. The Christmas Tree Farm Murders - An elderly couple in southwest Washington disappeared hours before they were due to host a Christmas party at their home. It took detectives twenty-seven years to bring the killer to justice. They Got in the Way - A single mother of two young children would do absolutely anything to spend more time meeting sex partners online. Even the unthinkable. The Girl Scout - When a seven-year-old girl disappears from her upstairs bedroom in the middle of the night, a small community realizes they have a devious predator in their midst. Plus many more disturbing stories. The stories in this volume are terrifying and represent human behavior at its absolute worst. Pure evil. However, these things really happen in the world and we shouldn't ignore that fact. We may never understand what goes on in a killer's mind, but at least we can be better informed. We may never really understand what goes on inside the mind of a killer, but at least by studying the case histories and knowing their backstory, we might gain insight into what makes them tick. With any luck, we can learn from the past. "In the tradition of Killers of the Flower Moon, a haunting murder-mystery revealing the human story behind one of the most devastating crimes of our time: the ruthless destruction of the Amazon rainforest-and anyone who stands in the way"--
On an unseasonably warm April evening in 2001, the headless body of a tiny girl was found discarded in a makeshift dump site in the woods on the southeast side of Kansas City, Missouri. One long night turned into four long years for Sgt. David Bernard and the Kansas City Police Department's 1020 Squad. They followed 1,500 leads, had a replica of the child's head sculpted from her skull, and ultimately conducted the single most extensive area canvass in the KCPD's history. Erica Michelle Marie Green, aka "Precious Doe," captured the hearts of not only the dedicated detectives who fought tirelessly to identify her and her killer but of an entire community. PRECIOUS FEW CLUES is a candid and touching account of the painful impact that this brutal murder had on Sgt. Bernard, his family, and the KCPD's 1020 squad. It chronicles the all too frequent story of child abuse, failed social services, a flawed court system, and battered women who sacrificed their own children to shield their abusive lovers, echoing the same preposterous explanations of "...but I love him."

"Six months after losing a world title fight that remains infamous as one of the last mob fixes in boxing, Tyrone 'The Butterfly' Everett--a flashy, handsome lightweight southpaw on the verge of stardom--was dead. Only twenty-four years old, he was shot in the head by his girlfriend, Carolyn McKendrick, who claimed that Everett had abused her throughout their relationship. But for years, street corner talk raised doubts about what actually took place in Philadelphia at 2710 Federal Street on May 26, 1977 ... Set against a backdrop of urban decline, racial tension, gangland violence, and the treacherous subculture of prizefighting, Murder on Federal Street is the riveting story of a young man whose limitless future could not outrace the dangerous present"--
On Monday, December 4, 1967, a body was discovered in the science building of the largest university in West Texas. The next day, citizens of Lubbock gathered for the Carol of Lights, and event typically the centerpiece of the holidays for the quiet college town. But in 1967, the normal festive excitement and anticipation was shockingly and swiftly shattered by the harrowing events that had occurred just twenty-four hours earlier. For the first time, the story of this shocking murder has been painstakingly reconstructed by Alan Burton and Chuck Lanehart. Piecing together timelines based on interviews, journalists' archives, courtroom transcripts, and the personal experiences of Lubbockites, Fatal Exam situates the murder, relates the capture, and details the trial of the crime's perpetrator. Not your standard psychopathic master, the criminal at this story's center cuts a challenging profile, and his story shines an unusual light on the criminal justice system. Fatal Exam is a crime story, but it's also the story of its biggest university in West Texas and the peculiar town-and-gown relationship that comes in such a far-flung setting.
On November 4, 2018, the women in a "football moms'" slumber party in Cumming, Georgia woke up to a traumatizing sight: Their friend, Tamla Horsford, lay dead in the backyard, her body covered in scrapes and bruises. The first autopsy reported that Tamla had fallen from the balcony and broken her neck. The women had been drinking all night, making Tamla's death seem like a case-closed accident. But the family disagreed and requested an independent autopsy. It's been revealed that not all the details were reported to the public: There weren't only women at the party, there were four men, too. The medical examiner from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, while originally claiming the broken neck was the fatal injury, has now recanted this statement. The lead investigator on the case even referred to himself as "racist cracker bastard murder covering up land."Search for the Truth brings to light all the disturbing statements of the partygoers, Tamla's family, and her friends, and the terrifying storm of racism and miscalculations (purposeful or accidental) that led to Tamla's death. Written by Michelle Graves, a close friend of Tamla, and filled with alarming new details, this is a story of what happens when a black woman, a loving wife, mother of five, and true friend, falls victim to the racism of South-and how this has let a killer get away with taking a life.

What happened to young mum-to-be Krystal Fraser on 20 June 2009 after she checked herself out of hospital to go to a party rather than await the birth of her first child?More than thirteen years later the question remains unanswered.No-one has reported seeing the young woman since.Local police did not consider Krystal to be a victim of foul play, wrongly believing she was the architect of her own disappearance. The trail went cold before the homicide squad was called in and a missing person case became a murder enquiry.Their only clues were two untraced calls from a local phone box on the day Krystal vanished. Her body has never been found and the mystery remains: a maze of accusations, denials, rumours and police shortcomings that continues to divide the small Australian rural community that was her home.In its wake came distressed families, broken relationships and suicides.Suspects were named and interviewed but none were charged. Was Krystal killed by an unwilling father of her unborn child? Were disputes between drug runners the cause? Was it the result of a fall-out with one of several sexual partners? In Last Train Home former police investigator Dennis O'Bryan delves deep into the events and people involved to reveal his discovery of new and compelling evidence.
"While Idaho Slept is a thought-provoking, literary chronicle of a small-town murder investigation blistering beneath the unceasing light of international interest, as traditional investigators, citizen sleuths, and the true-crime media acted--sometimes together, often in conflict--to uncover the truth. As J. Reuben Appelman brings this terrible crime into focus, he humanizes the four victims, examining the richness of their lives, dissects the mind and motivations of their presumed killer, and explores the world of northern Idaho, a rugged, deeply conservative stronghold steeped in Christian values and American patriotism."--Provided by publisher.
The Mainliner ExplosionA few minutes past 7 p.m, the evening of Nov 1, 1955, a United Airlines DC-6B Mainliner plane exploded 11 minutes into it 1,075-mile final stretch of its daily route from New York to Portland, via Chicago and Denver, ending 44 lives.Four veteran CAB investigators, representatives of the Douglas Company- the plane's manufacturer, and over 60 of United's top technical men, were rushed to the crash scene, a gently rolling area of ranch and farmlands northwest of Denver, dotted by cattle corrals, haystacks, and irrigation ditches.Among the first on the scene were a group of U.S. Postal Inspectors. To the Postal Inspection men, trained in the techniques of revenge-seekers, the cause of the crash was no mystery. Scorched and shredded envelopes known to have been carried in the luggage compartment immediately told the Postal inspectors that Flight 629 had been blasted by a dynamite bomb put aboard in Denver.Anatomy of A Trial: Based on hundreds of pages of FBI documents and court transcripts, The Mainliner Explosion is the only in-depth account of the crash which marked a turning point in airline history - the first bombing of a commercial aircraft in U.S. history - and the bomber's murder trial - a trial which posed many challenges to justice.

"On January 21st, 1958, Charles Starkweather and his fourteen-year-old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate changed the course of crime in the United States when they murdered her parents and sister in a house on the edge of Lincoln, Nebraska. They then drove to the nearby small town of Bennet, where they robbed and killed a farmer. When Starkweather's car broke down, the man and woman who stopped to help were murdered and jammed in a food cellar. By the time the dust settled, ten innocent people were dead, and the city of Lincoln was in a state of terror. ... Starkweather and Fugate's killing spree and the resulting trials received world-wide coverage. It was the first mass killing of the modern age--a precursor of the awakening of the country from the slumber of the fifties to the rebellious, violent sixties. ... From the New York Times bestselling author of Zodiac, Auto Focus, and Black Fire. Not since the infamous Zodiac Killer had the Bay Area lived under such a shadow. THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA WAS ONCE AGAIN ON HIGH ALERT. - In 1979, the tranquility of Mt. Tamalpais was shattered by the grim discovery of the first recorded homicide in the history of its beautiful green slopes. Witnesses glimpsed a dark-haired figure with a hawklike profile stabbing a woman hiker to death. This mysterious figure, later dubbed the Trailside Killer, vanished as completely as if he had never been. The many joggers, hikers, and nature lovers that usually frequented the popular mountainside . . . now stayed away in fear. Those that returned, did so with hesitation. The Trailside case would become one of the largest manhunts of the twentieth century, eventually involving the FBI, and the law enforcement agencies of Marin County, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Jose, and Daly City. The massive investigation made and smashed careers as lawmen pursued the killer in their long, frustrating search for justice that would include a pair of bloodstained glasses, an elusive .38-caliber revolver, a "mystery".44- caliber gun, a discarded knife, and a gold-yellow jacket-that all became pieces in an intricate puzzle.Includes over 40+ images and Illustrations!
Fetal abduction, or womb raiding, is defined as the kidnapping of an unborn child by forcing a pregnant mother to comply with an early delivery, sometimes using forceps or sometimes reaching into the womb and then taking the fetus directly from the mother. If the mother does not survive, then it is a case of Murder-Abduction. With fetal abduction without murder, it is considered a child kidnapping and violates the law and subject to federal penalties. This book explores these cases and looks at the people who commit these heinous crimes.
