Zahlreich und vielfältig sind die Wege, die die Interkulturelle Philosophie heute weltweit geht, wie ihre Geschichte und Entwicklung zeigen. Von dieser Pluralität der Wege werden nun in diesem Band nur jene im Fokus stehen, die sich aus der Initiative der Internationalen Kongresse für Interkulturelle Philosophie und der Internationalen Schule für Interkulturelle Philosophie (span. EIFI) entwickelt haben. Diese Tatsache erklärt sich dadurch, dass dieser Sammelband als Hommage für Raúl Fornet-Betancourt anlässlich seines 75. Geburtstages (2021) geplant war, auf dessen Wirken diese beiden Initiativen zurückgehen.Ein herzliches Dankeschön sage ich allen Autorinnen und Autoren. Mit ihren Beiträgen, die wertvolle Einblicke in die aktuelle Weiterarbeit am Projekt der Interkulturellen Philosophie geben, haben sie diese Publikation ermöglicht. Aus verschiedenen Gründen hat sich die Herausgabe des Bandes leider verzögert. Er soll jedoch, wie geplant, Raúl Fornet-Betancourt gewidmet sein.

Supported by the National Geographic Magazine in 1985, seven Americans and seven Koreans kayaked the southern islands of South Korea under the auspices of the Ledyard Canoe Club (Dartmouth College). The 500 mile expedition took them along the 3,300 island dotted peninsula.

Spätestens seit der Corona-Pandemie werden Verschwörungstheorien zunehmend als gesellschaftspolitisches Problem wahrgenommen und sind zum Politikum geworden. Wohl noch nie zuvor gab es im öffentlichen Diskurs eine derart hohe Sensibilität für das Thema. Ängste vor Verschwörungen einerseits und Ängste vor Verschwörungstheorien andererseits schaukeln sich offenbar gegenseitig hoch. Dies führt zu einer anwachsenden gesellschaftlichen Polarisierung und zu einem Klima von Misstrauen, Empörung und Gereiztheit. Zehn Jahre nach der Erstauflage des vorliegenden Bandes erscheint die Analyse des gegenwärtigen Verschwörungsdenkens dringender denn je. Im Rahmen von sechs neuen Beiträgen nimmt die erweiterte Neuauflage aktuelle Entwicklungen in den Blick. In Kombination mit den ursprünglichen Aufsätzen soll so zu einem umfassenden und differenzierten Bild des sozialen Phänomens Verschwörungstheorien beigetragen werden.

This book explores how the writers, poets, thinkers, historians, scientists, dilettantes and frauds of the long-nineteenth century addressed the "e;limit cases"e; regarding human existence that medicine continuously uncovered as it stretched the boundaries of knowledge. These cases cast troubling and distorted shadows on the culture, throwing into relief the values, vested interests, and power relations regarding the construction of embodied life and consciousness that underpinned the understanding of what it was to be alive in the long nineteenth century. This book investigates approaches to community heritage within the Arab region and the underlying theories associated with these approaches. Cosplay deals with a community of Danish fans of Japanese popular culture whose fandom makes them distinctly identifiable as productive fans; namely fans who appropriate characters, story worlds and design from manga, anime and video games and who produce cosplay. It is argued that the Danish cosplayers constitute a confident, vibrant community, which sees itself in the midst of actualizing manga and Japanese media worlds against the backdrop of childhood and early youth literacies and intimacies. Zimdancehall is a musical movement in Zimbabwe that has grown significantly since 2010. The Zimdancehall Revolution brings together critical essays on various aspects of Zimdancehall culture by scholars from diverse disciplines. Traditionally, music critics and senior academics have not taken Zimdancehall seriously, regarding it as vulgar, transient, bubble gum, lacking depth, and in short, a fad. There were also allegations that the lyrics influenced factionalism, incited violence and glorified drug use and unbridled promiscuity among the youth. This book affords this movement the protracted intellectual engagement that it deserves and argues that Zimdancehall is more than just a musical genre but an everyday culture, a way of life. The genre¿s close association with the ghetto is telling and enables critics to look at it as a social movement, a revolution, or a raw, petulant and raging disturbance of peace by those who live their lives on the margins. Itis, thus, a violent irruption onto the public space by marginalised young people whose presence as artistes creating art from the margins, simultaneously as victims and agents, circulating in a geography that escapes the limits of nationalist ideological and physical territory, in a way subverts communitarian prescriptions and allows young people entry into the world, albeit in a painful, tumultuous and violent way. The essays range from the mapping of the genre¿s historical development to theoretical interventions in understanding the genre and its relationship with various aspects of the Zimbabwean society like politics, gender, religion, language, dance, cultural values and other genres.

Der Umgang mit Heterogenität gehört in der außerschulischen Kinder- und Jugendarbeit zum Alltag, führt aber dennoch in der Ausgestaltung von medienpädagogischen Bildungsangeboten auch zu Herausforderungen. Mit Hilfe eines qualitativen Forschungsdesigns evaluiert die Autorin medienpädagogische Praxisprojekte im Hinblick auf Methodik und Didaktik und arbeitet Herausforderungen und auch Gelingensbedingungen heraus und leitet Handlungsempfehlungen ab. Die Autorin eröffnet damit einen Einblick in die medienpädagogische Praxis und erweitert die Erkenntnisse über die praktische Ausgestaltung von Medienprojekten.

Das vorliegende Buch beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, inwiefern inklusionsorientierte Haltungen und Einstellungen von Lehramtsstudierenden mithilfe von Videofällen gefördert werden können. Um diese Frage zu beantworten, werden drei aufeinander aufbauende Studien realisiert: In der ersten Studie werden Einstellungen und Haltungen der Studierenden erfasst. In einer zweiten Studie werden videobasierte Lehr-Lern-Gelegenheiten aus authentischem Videomaterial entwickelt. In der abschließenden Studie durchlaufen die Studierenden der ersten Studie unterschiedliche Seminare mit und ohne Videofälle, so dass eine Veränderung in ihrer Einstellung und Haltung gemessen werden kann.

This "strategic research project" for a 2013 master's thesis at the US Army War College by US Air Force Lt. Colonel Christopher Lohr continues to be timely both for its insights and for what it reveals about US military thinking. From the author's abstract: The proliferation of mobile Internet technology grants the average global citizen immediate access to information and the ability to posit opinions, i.e. influence, at near-real-time speed. The amalgam of 247 news networks, mass media, the Internet, and social media the mediaverse, coupled with mobile technology, influences strategy in three ways. First, it is a national security challenge and opportunity. Second, it influences the character of war. Third, it is forcing an evolution of the strategic environment. The successful strategic leader must be not just aware but au courant on the challenges and opportunities presented by the mediaverse. Improved processes, tools, and education are required to adapt to mediaverse influencers. The most significant systemic improvement is the addition of a robust strategic feedback loop in the strategy formulation model. This can be accomplished by better integrating information operators into campaign planning and mission execution to surveil the mediaverse to assess content and on-going events to provide a robust assessment of the information environment. Alain Locke is most known for his involvement in the Harlem Renaissance. However, he received his PhD in philosophy from Harvard University in 1918, and produced a very large corpus of philosophical work. His work shows him to have been a sophisticated philosopher who thought through practical and theoretical problems regarding the nature of cosmopolitanism, democracy, race, value, religion, art, and education. Although Locke's philosophical work has been discussed in parts, there has been no theorizing about how his different philosophical commitments fit together. In this book Corey L. Barnes begins to systematize Locke's philosophical thought, showing how his democratic theory, philosophy of race, and value theory are connected to and undergirded by a commitment to cosmopolitanism. In so doing, Barnes unearths aspects of Locke's thought-for example, his economic thinking-that have not been accorded attention and reimagines parts of his work about which have been theorized, all while bringing Locke into current debates about each subject.

This book charts the process of civilisation in Japan. Using the theory of civilising processes developed by Norbert Elias, the author examines the complex underlying structural and psychological processes from the seventh century to the twentieth century. Furthermore, by drawing on rich historical data, the author illustrates how these complex processes led the Japanese to see themselves as 'more civilised' than their forebears and neighbouring countries. Although the theory serves as an important reference point, the author draws on other works to address different complex questions surrounding Japanese development. Therefore, this book presents three key themes: first, it gives an alternative understanding of the complex developments of Japanese society; second, it intercedes into an ongoing debate about the applicability of Elias's theory in a non-Western context; and third, it expands Elias's theory.

This book contends that Africa's sustainable development must be built on African identity and values.  Contributors reflect of the role of values in Africa's effort to overcome poverty, the focus of SDG 1. The volume reflects on how indigenous values such as Ubuntu constitute a critical resource in addressing poverty. It reiterates the importance of positioning the response to poverty in Africa on the continent's own, home grown values. This book is a linguistic analysis of the British obesity media narrative, analysing a large corpus of published newspaper articles to demonstrate how the language used perpetuates common misconceptions and stereotypes about weight and obesity, and then exploring the sociological effects of these widespread conceptualisations. Weight stigma and weight bias are misunderstood issues, and often underestimated in terms of their prevalence and effect by society at large. The author examines topics including the role of power and persuasion, the use of metaphor, the personal stories of members of the general public, and the gendered real-life consequences of arbitrary weight standards to provide a linguistic driven study of obesity in news media. Obesity is an issue which sits at the intersection of science and the humanities, and as such, although the research methods used are firmly situated within the field of Linguistics, this book will also be of interest to readers from fields as diverse as Sociology, Fat Studies, Media Studies, Medicine and Psychology.

This book provides an analysis of the various challenges and opportunities facing the Japanese broadcasting industry. It is the first book in English that explores how Japanese broadcasting, especially commercial broadcasting, fulfills its social mission under the threat of the increased popularity of Internet-based media services as it reexamines the role and nature of broadcasting. During a series of disasters and the spread of the new coronavirus in Japan, while varied media connected people and supported socio-economic activities, broadcasting continued to be the most trusted. However, as Internet media attract increasing attention, the trend in broadcast viewership is downward. Commercial broadcasting, in particular, will be strongly affected by that trend and the impact of the shrinking population. Recognizing that such dramatic technological and environmental changes are under way, in addition to the eleven researchers participating in the visiting researcher committee at the Research Institute of the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association (JBA), four research collaborators and the secretariat (director of the JBA) have contributed to this book. They have taken up issues related to challenges and opportunities for the broadcasting industry based on their respective areas of awareness of the problems, including policies for broadcasting, fake news, disaster responses, viewer trust in television programs, competition with Internet-based services, and the business model for broadcasting.
