"A compassionate, sweeping narrative about the transformation in American attitudes toward animals, particularly after the Civil War"--
"From the author, media pioneer, and curator of TED, a book about one of humankind's defining but overlooked impulses, and how we can super-charge its potential to build a hopeful future. Recent years have been tough on optimists. Hopes that the Internet might bring people together have been crushed by the divisiveness of social media. But as head of TED, Chris Anderson has had a ringside view of the world's boldest thinkers sharing their most uplifting ideas. Inspired by them and the unique insights he gained from how online sharing transformed TED into a global beacon of transformative ideas, he believes there's a pathway back from outrage to optimism. It all comes down to reimagining the role that one of the most fundamental human virtues-generosity-can play in our connected era. What if generosity could become infectious generosity? Anderson shows how the same technologies that have bred negativity can also be mobilized as an exponential force for good, to create chain reactions of generous behavior. Every day, remarkable stories of individual acts of kindness have sparked remarkable ripple effects when shared online, achieving a level of impact never before possible. This book captures some of the most inspiring such stories, revealing their potential to solve problems and make people happier in the process. Gifts of time, talent, connection, and kindness have always been part of what it is to be a good human. But today they can be catalyzed to have world-changing, self-replicating impact. In Infectious Generosity, Anderson offers readers a playbook to fine-tune these actions, to take generosity from invisible to transformative. Infectious Generosity invites readers, as well as companies, investors, and organizations, to give more to the world than they take from it, and to wholeheartedly embrace new forms of infectious generosity. Doing so isn't merely a test of character-our entire future may depend on it. This book shows the way"--

'An essential resource. Howson strikes not just at cryptocurrency, but the frauds who promote blockchain technology as a solution to any social problem' David Gerard, author of Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain'A merciless takedown of attempts to apply blockchain to the world's biggest problems ... If you are thinking of using blockchain for good, read this first' Professor Villi Lehdonvirta, University of OxfordThe subject of immense hope, hype and confusion, crypto has amassed countless headlines in recent years. With cryptocurrencies, NFTs and metaverse markets crashing, the underlying blockchain technology is still promised to solve global development challenges, and revolutionise every industry. But is the technology really a silver bullet?Peter Howson cuts through the jargon and bluster to tell an alarming story of how right-wing libertarian crypto entrepreneurs - often aided by charities, politicians and philanthropists - seek out and exploit conditions of poverty, oppression, corruption and conflict. Their goal? A new front of 'crypto-colonial' extractivism. Let Them Eat Crypto reveals the alarming truth: far from 'banking the unbanked', saving the gorillas, or freeing people from oppressive governments, blockchain offers only false solutions, surveillance and hi-tech snake oil.Peter Howson is a technology writer, researcher and Assistant Professor in International Development at Northumbria University. His work has appeared in Reuters, The Independent, The Conversation, Novara, Jacobin and Coindesk. He investigates the green-washing, aid-washing and crypto-shenanigans that go on in Silicon Valley, as well as the lesser-known tech-hubs of the Global South.

Over the years Bill Gates has acquired political influence through his charitable work, and the book shows the controversial ways through which he utilises it. This is a chaotic book of Luciferian things. It teaches the occult, Satanic philosophy, gray sided philosophy, becoming greater, personal growth, philanthropy, and discussion of some worthwhile topics. It is a book of improvement in the Luciferian sense, motivational at times, imparting wisdom, some enlightenment, going over the modern world, and sometimes just things that are fun to talk about.
A Legacy of America's Global Volunteerism: International Voluntary Services 1953-2002 explores the philosophical and organizational growth of international volunteerism. The book describes the International Voluntary Services, Inc. (IVS) innovative use of volunteers in relief and development projects and the challenges faced in both its public-private partnerships and field operations. Analysis of impacts and lessons from IVS's fifty-year lifespan may provide guidance for future international voluntary service institutions and programs. Volunteers' personal stories highlight issues inherent in international development and volunteerism. Section I, History of International Voluntary Services, Inc., covers events from the start of IVS in 1953 to its closure in 2002. Described are programs initiated by the U.S. Government and private organizations that engaged American volunteers in development and relief activities worldwide. Initially focused on sensitive areas of the Middle East and Indochina, IVS programs expanded and internationalized throughout the Global South. Section II, Volunteer Experiences And Impacts, describes the wide-ranging experiences of individual volunteers and the challenges of evaluating the impact of volunteer programs. Section III, International Voluntary Services Partners, identifies partnership programs ranging from "Peace Church" volunteer programs that inspired IVS, to recent U.S. Government volunteer initiatives, and the formation of the U. S. Peace Corps. Section IV, Implications and Questions for Future International Volunteerism, analyzes lessons learned from the IVS experience and their implications for future international volunteer activities. The author of the book's first chapter, entitled IVS Origins and Early Years, is a former Peace Corps volunteer; the following chapters were written by IVS alumni and professionals in the field of volunteerism who frame the IVS experience in the context of a broader international development picture. Individual volunteer stories throughout the book describe the challenges they faced and their wide-ranging successes and failures. The book highlights the dramatic changes throughout the world during the second half of the Twentieth Century and how these changes impacted international volunteerism. It concludes that international volunteerism remains relevant today, as reflected in the Peace Corps, which has had 241,000 volunteers serving in 143 countries since 1961.
