TTIP is not "dead". The author demonstrates why many of the TTIP negotiating content is more relevant today than ever before in connection with the ongoing EU-US trade negotiations that have been picking up new speed. From the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) to the Trump administration's trade war, this book examines the transatlantic trade relationship between the European Union and the United States and the political implications on both sides of the Atlantic. This book also provides policy recommendations for both sides on how to move forward based on the analysis. An outlook for trade in the 21st century is provided drawing on trade history between the two entities over the years up until the current 2023 trends.

In "Globalization Unveiled," the author provides an incisive exploration of the profound role the World Trade Organization (WTO) plays in the multifaceted realm of globalization. This meticulously researched tome offers both a historical perspective on the evolution of global trade systems and a critical analysis of the WTO's successes, challenges, and enduring influence on the international economic landscape. The narrative begins with a foundational understanding of the very concept of globalization and the historical precedents that paved the way for the establishment of the WTO in 1995. From the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) to the Uruguay Round, the author offers readers a comprehensive overview of the journey towards creating a unified body to govern international trade. At the heart of "Globalization Unveiled" is a detailed examination of the WTO's operations and its core principles, such as most-favored-nation status and transparency. The author explores the intricacies of trade negotiations, the dispute settlement mechanism, and the increasingly important role of intellectual property rights in the age of information and technology. With a balanced and informed approach, the author delves into the successes of the WTO, highlighting its role in reducing global trade barriers, fostering economic cooperation, and promoting stability. He showcases how the organization has facilitated economic growth and development in various regions, bringing forth case studies that demonstrate the tangible benefits of a globalized trade system.Yet, the narrative doesn't shy away from the controversies and criticisms that surround the WTO. From concerns about sovereignty erosion and the marginalization of developing economies to debates about environmental protection and labor rights, "Globalization Unveiled" provides an objective assessment of the challenges faced by the organization. The author elucidates how, in many instances, the WTO has had to navigate the delicate balance between promoting free trade and addressing legitimate socio-economic concerns. In the concluding sections, the book contemplates the future trajectory of global trade and the role of the WTO in an ever-evolving international environment. With the rise of regional trade agreements, growing nationalistic sentiments, and unprecedented global challenges like climate change, what role can and should the WTO play in shaping the future of globalization?Engaging, insightful, and deeply informative, "Globalization Unveiled" serves as an essential guide to understanding the intricate dance of global trade dynamics and the pivotal role of the World Trade Organization. Perfect for students, policymakers, business professionals, and anyone curious about the forces that shape our interconnected world.
< p="">This book is a machine-generated literature overview that explores the impact of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on international trade and its development. It looks at international trade before and after 1995 when WTO was established. It highlights the journey of the reciprocity-based reforms under WTO that were expected to help the developing and less developed countries (LDCs) more vis-à-vis their developed counterparts, given the existence of systemic and structural bottlenecks in the latter territories. The enabling steps were further expected to promote exports from developing countries and LDCs in line with their comparative advantage patterns, enhance the wage level and in turn, facilitate development of local population. The book showcases how during the first decade after WTO inception, a considerable progress was made for facilitating exports from the lower and lower-middle income countries through crucial provisions like less than full reciprocity (LTFR), Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), support measures under Aid for Trade, zero duty preferences under Special and Differential Treatment (SDT) and so on. However, the pace of WTO reforms has slowed down in the aftermath of the sub-prime crisis in 2008-09 and subsequent focus on formation of regional trade agreements (RTAs). In particular, in the aftermath of Covid-19, a trend towards de-globalization has been noticed, with considerable ramifications for the development of lower-income countries. In this background, there is a need to analyze how the deepening of trade flows and the subsequent de-globalization waves in the global canvas have traversed different paths in different continents and draw the appropriate lessons for the understanding the trade-development interlinkage therein. With insightful observations from the human editors, this machine-generated overview would be of interest to academicians, policy research community, advisory research community, and students ofinternational trade globally.^
This book focuses on the recovery and new normal in a post-Covid scenario, drawing important lessons from the pandemic and proposing new ideas for sustainable development, endogenous dynamism, and inclusive growth. The book presents different ideas and perspectives about the present and the future, reflecting on four main fields of our economic reality: macroeconomics, governments, technology, and society. It discusses important topics for future economic scenarios, beginning with an estimation of the economic consequences of the absence of an equitable distribution of vaccines. Further topics discussed include the government's debts sustainability, the probability of an inflation/deflation or of a stagflation scenario, as well as the impact of US and European economic policies on economic growth. The book further investigates the economic costs of the pandemic, which have fallen most heavily on those least able to bear them. It examines governments subsidies, which supported people and firms through wage subsidies, unemployment benefits, and other fiscal measures, and discusses the question of whether more investment in health care, education, and other public services will still be needed. In a time of immense change and global challenges, this book is a must-read for scholars, researchers, and students of economics, as well as policy-makers interested in a better understanding of economic growth, energy, environment, migration, development, digital transformation, and demography.

NFTs cause excitement and skepticism. How much value can a token hold? What drives this value? To properly appreciate NFTs we must first understand what they actually are, how they work and in what contexts they are used. The Everything Token is an essential primer on NFTs (non-fungible tokens), explaining their use, purpose, and how businesses can create and exploit them to develop new product lines, building customer loyalty and increased revenues at the same time.Together the authors have spent much of the past few years embedded in NFT communities and helping launch NFT products. As self-described beta testers of this brand-new technology, they've seen its power first-hand and aim to educate others on the importance, uses and purpose of NFT and surrounding, ever-evolving technologies.Demystifying the complexities, two experts in NFTs show why we should take NFTs much more seriously than their reputation as fun digital art collectibles suggest. They have a wider variety of uses than one may realise.Gripping and accessible, this book provides a guide and an insight into what can often be a hard-to-grasp area of technology.
This is the history of the institutions and individuals who have managed the global economy, from the World Monetary and Economic Conference in the wake of the Great Depression to the present, as leading nations tackle the fallout from Covid-19 and the threats of inflation, food security and climate change. Since the Second World War, organisations created at Bretton Woods - the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development - and afterwards - the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development - have left an indelible mark on our contemporary world.Martin Daunton examines the swings of the pendulum over ninety years between the forces of democracy, national determination and globalization. He shows that the structures of economic government have been overwhelmingly shaped by 'first world' powers, often to the dismay of developing countries. He argues that whilst structures cannot be separated from the politics of and between the biggest economies, future global recovery rests on the reduction of inequality and that multilateral institutions are fundamental in fostering inclusive growth.
This book provides a comprehensive analysis of how EU state aid law is shaping the future of EU investment policy in a global context. It examines in detail how EU state aid policy and practice interact with the EU investment regime on the internal market and affect the external trade relations of the Member States and the EU alike. The debate this book engages in concerns competence, i.e., which body delineates the scope of state aid law and policy (now and in the future) when and where it intersects and collides with another distinct legal field: investment protection. Pursuing a doctrinal approach to the topic in the light of EU law and international law, the book analyses the interaction of the EU's trade, state aid and investment policy. This is done by posing the following research question: How is EU state aid law shaping the future of EU investment policy in a global context? Further, the book puts forward three corresponding arguments. First, this influence can be seen in the EU's incorporation of clauses promoting fair competition and state aid policy in international trade agreements. Second, EU state aid law and policy contributed to recent internal developments which led the Member States to terminate their bilateral agreements with each other (intra-EU BITs) by the end of 2019. Third, the EU has been working to replace the BITs between its Member States and third countries (extra-EU BITs) with its own trade agreements, which are aligned with EU legislation. This combined analysis of EU law and international law yields a number of interesting conclusions. The book addresses a highly topical and rapidly evolving area of EU law and international investment law. It is also the first book to provide a comprehensive approach to the interplay of state aid rules and EU investment policy internally and externally, i.e., within the EU and on a global scale. As such, it closes an important gap in the extant literature on international and EU law.

"Goodman reveals the ... innerworkings of our supply chain and the factors that have led to its constant, dangerous vulnerability. His reporting takes readers deep into the elaborate system, showcasing the triumphs and struggles of the human players who operate it--from factories in Asia and an almond grower in Northern California, to a group of striking railroad workers in Texas, to a truck driver who Goodman accompanies across hundreds of miles of the Great Plains. Through their stories, Goodman weaves [an] ... argument for reforming a supply chain to become truly reliable and resilient, demanding a radical redrawing of the bargain between labor and shareholders, and deeper attention paid to how we get the things we need"--Amazon.com.
We are living in turbulent times. Trade and globalisation are facing major economic, geopolitical and societal shifts. Trade continues to drive job creation, growth, innovation, development and poverty reduction. Simultaneously, trade is also raising legitimate concerns about resilience, distribution, inclusion and the environment. More recently concerns about national security, dependencies and technology are redrawing trade maps. In today's complex trade ecosystem, the Trade Handbook provides the reader with a comprehensive view of why open trade and economic integration matter, where trade is headed, how to regulate it, and how it can work for everyone - not just some or most. If in the past the focus has been on making trade possible, i.e. negotiating trade agreements, the Trade Handbook suggests to pay the same attention to making trade happen, and most importantly, to ensure trade works for all. Basically, how to make trade effectively work for prosperity, people and planet. The Trade Handbook is part of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS)."Trade is a powerful process shaping the global economy, leveraging development but also creating new tensions and social inequalities. If you want to understand how this works and how this should work, you have here a brilliant synthesis provided by an outstanding policy-maker in the world stage."Professor Maria Joao Rodrigues (FEPS President) "The book smartly guides us through the underlying economic reasons for engaging in trade, the functioning of the international trading framework and key elements needed to facilitate trade."Prof. Dr. hab. Marek Belka (former Prime Minister of Poland and Vice-President of S&D Group in the European Parliament)"It is both a reference book and an inspiration. Trade will always lead to discussions, this book will make the discussion more factual and knowledgeable."Ann Linde (Former Foreign Affairs Minister of Sweden)"In a mesmerizing tour de force that takes the reader through the ebbs and flows of the intellectual and empirical evolution of the trade adventure, Gonzalez Laya articulates a fresh vision with courage and conviction."Dr. Dimitris Tsarouhas (Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University Research Director, Virginia Tech Consultant, World Bank Member of FEPS Scientific Council)
