This book explains what a "damah" is, what verse of scripture that it comes from for context, and it shows how extensively Father God utilizes them in His Word. It also explores the distinct possibility of God having an unknown "first" and "second" law. And it looks at how Paul, being inspired by the Holy Spirit, had provided numerous "hints" and "clues" within his epistles, that point to some things that God has "hidden" in His Word as well. I believe that many of Father God's "second born", children of promise, after having read this book with an open mind, will have difficulty in reading the Bible again, without seeing the above being "revealed" and "coming to life" throughout its pages.
In this companion volume to his acclaimed work Manly Piety in Its Spirit, Robert Philip explores what an active life of Christian devotion looks like in practice for men. Whereas the first book laid out Philip's vision for integrating biblical masculinity and vigorous discipleship, Manly Piety in its Realizations reveals what this ideal translates to in real world habits, relationships, and work.Philip begins by focusing on men's personal spiritual habits, unpacking the disciplines of prayer, scripture reading, self-examination, and meditation. He then turns to character and shows how traits like integrity, courage, self-control and compassion manifest themselves in daily life. The bulk of the book illustrates manly piety lived out in marriage, friendship, parenting, professional endeavors, and service to the church and wider community.Throughout, Philip provides inspiration and advice by highlighting biblical figures and contemporary biographies of Christian men whose faith was authenticated by their actions. He also addresses potential objections and discusses navigating the tensions and limitations of living out one's faith in a fallen world. In Manly Piety in its Realizations, Philip contends that when pursued with diligence and grace, robust masculine Christianity results in an embodiment of the Gospel that beautifully impacts every sphere of a man's life.Written with Philip's trademark intellectual vigor and pastoral warmth, this book provides men seeking to live out a vigorous faith with godly wisdom, guidance, and inspiration for the journey. It serves as an invaluable manual for translating lofty principles into practical habits, relationships, and service as modern disciples of Jesus Christ.
In Manly Piety in Its Spirit, celebrated religious writer Robert Philip explores the true meaning and expression of Christian devotion for men. Philip argues that modern notions of masculinity and piety have become unnaturally separated, leading to a version of faith that fails to resonate with many men.Throughout this thought-provoking book, Philip lays out his vision for bringing devotion and manliness back together. He examines the lives of great biblical and historical figures who modeled genuine "manly piety," such as Moses, David, and Jesus Christ himself. According to Philip, their examples show that qualities like courage, leadership, justice, and self-sacrifice for a greater cause are integral parts of a godly masculinity.Philip then provides practical guidance for how modern men can live out an active, vigorous faith. He offers insights for spiritual disciplines and habits ranging from prayer and Bible study, to integrity in business, service to others, defense of the helpless, and stewardship of God's creation. Philip contends that when lived fully and boldly, biblical Christianity uniquely satisfies the longings and calling innate in manhood.Written in the engaging and intellectual style that made Philip famous, Manly Piety in Its Spirit makes the case that true masculinity reaches its potential and fulfillment only through a vigorous, practical, and heroic faith. It is an inspiring call to men of all walks to embrace Christian discipleship with energy and conviction, utilizing their gifts and abilities in service to God's Kingdom.
The Eight Principal Vices' is one of the various Latin prose composed by the 7th century Anglo-Saxon saint, Aldhelm. It deals with the subject of morality and cautions against the sundry vices that might pose a threat to a Christian's soul. It is similar in its composition to work by Eutropius, Aldhelm's Visigothic contemporary. This work includes both the original Latin text as well as the English translation.
The concept behind this book is found first in the text of Mark chapter five which we will discuss below. Here the authorized version of the Bible states that "virtue" went out of Yeshua which healed a woman with an issue of blood for twelve years. This transference of "virtue" can be seen as an Emanation of G-d's power. Thus, the healing power used was an Emanation of G-d's virtuous power. Within Jewish spiritual tradition, the Emanations of G-d's power relates to ten characteristics suggested and alluded to in the text of Hakham Shaul's (the Apostle Paul as Sage of Jewish tradition) First letter to the Corinthians in chapter 12. Here he speaks of the Nine "gifts" of the Spirit. Jewish tradition reports the number to be "Ten Emanations" which contains attributes that can be emulated and realized by those who study these skills. In this work "Emanations of G-d's Virtuous Power" we delve into the first triad of these Ten Emanations. These Emanations are Hokhmah, Binah, and Da'at (Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge). These "Emanations" from the Jewish Tradition on Creation and Cosmology. We look in-depth at them, their relationship to creation, and their Emanations as G-d's Virtuous Power.

Written as a guide for Christians seeking to understand the distinctives of a Bible-centered church, Measures of the Mission shows how the coming of the king affects our understanding of the kingdom story (the Bible), kingdom central (the church), and kingdom living (culture and vocation). The gospel of the kingdom is not just about how the story of your individual life can have a happy ending, it's about how God is bringing in a new heavens and a new earth, filled with His glory, so that the story of the whole cosmos has a happy ending.Measures of the Mission offers answers to the following questions:Bible: What is the gospel? How does six-day creation affect our lives? What happened at Pentecost? What happened in AD 70?Church: Why is the church necessary? What is the free exercise of religion? How do we disciple? How should we order our worship services?Christian Life: What is justification? What is a Christian view of singleness? Of marriage? How do we parent? How do we work as employees, or love our neighbor?¿In order to recover the kingdom, we must understand our own story. In order to live out the kingdom, we must see the church's place at the center of the kingdom. And if we are going to transform the kingdoms of this world into the kingdom of God, we must understand how to live out our kingdom citizenship in everyday life. Faithful kingdom living in our vocations brings us full circle, back to God's original purposes for creation and humanity.

This book offers an historical and comparative profile of classical pentecostal movements in Brazil and the United States in view of their migratory beginnings and transnational expansion. Pentecostalism's inception in the early twentieth century, particularly in its global South permutations, was defined by its grassroots character. In contrast to the top-down, hierarchical structure typical of Western forms of Christianity, the emergence of Latin American Pentecostalism embodied stability from the bottom up-among the common people. While the rise to prominence of the Assemblies of God in Brazil, the Western hemisphere's largest (non-Catholic) denomination, demanded structure akin to mainline contexts, classical pentecostals such as the Christian Congregation movement cling to their grassroots identity. Comparing the migratory and missional flow of movements with similar European and US roots, this book considers the prospects for classical Brazilian pentecostals with an eye on the problems of church growth and polity, gender, politics, and ethnic identity.
Luther first focuses on the freedom of the inner man, "that we may see by what means a man becomes justified, free, and a true Christian; that is, a spiritual, new, and inward man." The soul's freedom is not tied to external factors that affect the body, for "what harm can ill health, bondage, hunger, thirst, or any other outward evil do to the soul?" Instead, "one thing, and one alone, is necessary for life, justification, and Christian liberty, and that is the most holy word of God, the gospel of Christ.
I looked up at my handsome husband. "Can we really live this way?" He just pulled me close. We were standing behind the tiny house we'd found through Craigslist. Moments later we shook hands with the owner, bought the house, and boldly began our tiny house adventure. In the years that followed, I learned so much about living simply. This little book is an exploration of the 10 mindsets that made living in a micro home a transformative experience for us. We discovered autonomy, gratitude, contentment, and so much more. You won't find the nuts and bolts of how to downsize in this book, but you will find the foundational mindsets that will help you make the move that is right for you - even if you've got friends and family telling you that you're nuts. If you're ready for autonomy and contentment, this book is for you.
Pietism was repeatedly confronted with the accusation that it was hostile to art. In the late 17th century, for example, ornate church music met with criticism from many Pietists. At the same time, they appreciated music as an important component of public worship, which should deepen the piety of the converted and appeal to the hearts of the unconverted. However, this was preceded by the conviction that the criterion for appreciating music was to be found in the faith convictions of the composer and performer themselves. This tension underlies the musical thinking of Halle's theologians in the 18th century. The study by Joyce L. Irwin refrains from dealing with polemical literature in the environment of Pietism, but rather draws on texts that treat passages of the Bible dealing with music. In addition to the biblical commentaries of August Hermann Francke, Joachim Lange, Johann Jakob Rambach, Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten, and Johann Salomo Semler, poetic texts also come into view, such as the hymnals of Freylinghausen, the poems of Rambach, and the poetry and drama of August Hermann Niemeyer. In the process, it becomes apparent that music in Pietism is essential for the service to God, but that the spiritual conviction of the individual remains crucial.
It's amazing to think that an entire book could be written on one verse in the Bible, but Thomas Watson managed to do just that. This early Puritan book, so logical, simple, and full of truth, has stood the test of time so well that that it is still treasured today. In the words of Watson, "If the whole Scripture be the feast of the soul, then Romans 8 may be a dish at that feast, and with its sweet variety may very much refresh and animate the hearts of Gods people."In his grand exposition, Watson masterfully encourages through the words of one of the most memorized and quoted verses in Scripture, Romans 8:28: "We know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."Watson, who lived from 1620 to 1686, was an English, Non-Conformist, Puritan preacher and author who penned "All Things for Good" around 1660. Many have found this work, written more than 350 years ago, to be still relevant and refreshing today. Though the old English requires some thought, Watson's work is magnificent in its depth and simplicity. In nine chapters, he expertly "fleshes out" why all things-whether the best or the worst-work together for good to the godly. Though there are many books that try to explain "why bad things happen to good people," Watsons is the original and-in the eyes of many-the best. Readers who are facing the "trials of life" will find this powerful and enlightening book to be especially encouraging.Through Romans 8:28, Watson reassures readers that:God is always in control, and thatNo matter the circumstances, God uses everything that happens in our lives to help us to grow spiritually and become more like Jesus. A thorough and logical treatment of Romans 8:28, this classic, which is backed by Scripture after Scripture is a rare gem that will benefit many if read, not just once, but multiple times.
In his Baptist History in England and America, David Beale illuminates numerous topics, including Baptist origins, their search for the ancient manner of immersion, and even the way they acquired the name Baptist. His book annotates key beliefs and practices in Baptist confessions of faith. Multiple chapters describe persecutions Baptists suffered, and contributions they made toward religious freedom and liberty of conscience. Striking a balance between brief and exhaustive, the author aims to inspire and to encourage, as well as to inform, in a precise and accurate manner. He provides in-depth coverage of numerous topics never mentioned in average surveys. Beale refutes the oft-repeated charge that key Baptist leaders were once Seekers, Levellers, Ranters, and Fifth Monarchists. The book is unique in the extent of its usage of local church records and numerous manuscripts in libraries at home and abroad. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; text-align: justify; font: 12.0px Merriweather} span.s1 {font: 12.0px Helvetica} David Beale taught Baptist History (college and seminary) twice a year for thirty years at Bob Jones University and Seminary. Currently residing in Simpsonville, SC, he is active in his local church and dedicates his time to writing, speaking in churches, and conducting academic modules and seminars.
Annice Carter (1902-1988) was born on a farm in Indiana, yet her life came to encompass the breadth of the United States as well as service in Palestine and Africa. She was a direct witness to conflict in the Middle East, dodged German U-boats during World War II, and encountered the anti-colonial movement in Kenya. Although spiritually rooted in Christian revivalism of the early 1900s, she grew to have an expansive, non-doctrinal understanding of her faith. Born in horse and buggy days, she made her first trips to Palestine on a steamer and her last one on a jet plane. In this extensive biography of a Quaker missionary, drawn primarily from thousands of her own letters, the complexity of a fascinating life is revealed - as well as fascinating details of complex issues of the 20th century.
