Sometimes, a book's title speaks for itself. Borrowing from one of Jesus' most succinct and poignant parables, Lionel Jean-Jacques spreads his immeasurable exuberance in discovering and attaining the universe's greatest treasure, Jesus Christ and His gospel.Jean-Jacques opens the book with a personal start, sharing his ups and downs in taking Scripture and spiritual matters more seriously and ultimately approaching the decision to be born again. He incorporates notable Bible case studies to encourage readers to realize they are not alone in their struggles: Nicodemus was hesitant; Jonah was painfully stubborn. The author diversifies his talking points, eventually venturing into some critically unique elements of Seventh-day Adventism. Though it may seem like he strays from the title, he knits things together nicely. Understanding and accepting the Sabbath, the state of the dead, and embracing and participating in the three angels' messages are all part of selling everything one has to acquire the priceless Pearl. Preparing for the calamities and deceptions of the end times goes hand in hand with the yearning to spend eternity with our Lord and Savior.

This book is a reminder to all that life is a journey of unpredictable experiences, a journey with winding roads covered with disappointments, joys, sadness, and disbeliefs. We find ourselves having to make a variety of choices as we travel throughout our entire life. Sometimes the choices we make do not work out to be the best alternative or the right option for our good. The choices we make may lead us down the wrong path, causing hurts and regrets for us as well as others. We must learn to maneuver each experience with care, caution, and prayer because how we play these experiences in our daily life decides our soul salvation. Each experience has a lesson inscribed for growing and coming closer to our Savior. All experiences give us an opportunity to become a better person, to develop a loving relationship with our heavenly Father.Sometimes it takes a little longer to see the benefits from life's experiences, but in the end, the goodness inside of us blossoms, and we realize that God's guidance, grace, and mercy helped bring us through our difficulties. Every human being made by God has a good heart. God did not make a human being with an evil heart. Everything and everyone He made is good. Our heavenly Father loves his children now, and He will always love His children. His love is never ending.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) has 90,000 missionaries in the field, seeking to convert members of Christian churches. Because the lessons these missionaries teach represent the core claims of Mormonism, this book interacts with those lessons from a biblical perspective.Written and edited by former Mormons who are now Christians, it includes insider knowledge, personal stories, cultural insights, evangelistic wisdom, and best practices from former LDS missionaries themselves, to help Christians fortify their own faith while learning how to share their faith wisely and effectively with Latter-day Saints.
"This book contains a true account of the origin of the Book of Mormon; a sketch of the history, experience, and ministry of Elder William Smith; the story of the golden plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated; and account of the angelic visit to Joseph Smith, by which means the ancient Nephite records were found and by him translated; and account of the most extraordinary miracle, wrought by the laying on of the hands of the elders of the church, and a statement of the principles and doctrines as believed and taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with other matters of great interest to all believers in Christianity." - William Smith
This book was written with one primary goal in mind: That it might be used as a tool to help us to more easily talk of Christ, rejoice in Christ, preach of Christ, prophesy of Christ, and write according to our prophecies, that our children might know to what source they must look for a remission of their sins. (See 2 Nephi 25:26).
This first volume of commentary represents my initial attempt to provide one lay member's perspective on latter-day revelation. For me, the effort to express my thoughts on paper is representative of the life-long effort that a study of The Doctrine & Covenants should be.This book does not pretend to offer any earth-shaking insights into the revelations. As a matter of fact, its objective is to do just the opposite; to stimulate further inquiry that might result in far more spectacular personal inspiration. If anything within its pages helps you to fall asleep more easily, dream more pointedly, or awaken more refreshed, or if it contributes to your learning, leading, lifting, laughing, loving, or living, it will have fulfilled its purpose.
This thoroughly researched and vivid account examines a murderous spree by one of the West's most notorious outlaw gangs and the consequences for a small Mormon community in Arizona's White Mountains. On March 27, 1900, Frank LeSueur and Gus Gibbons joined a sheriff's posse to track and arrest five suspected outlaws. The next day, LeSueur and Gibbons, who had become separated from other posse members, were found brutally murdered. The outlaws belonged to Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch gang. Frank LeSueur was the great uncle of the book's author, Stephen C. LeSueur. In writing about the Wild Bunch, historians have played up the outlaws' daring heists and violent confrontations. Their victims serve primarily as extras in the gang's stories, bit players and forgotten names whose lives merit little attention. Drawing upon journals, reminiscences, newspaper articles, and other source materials, LeSueur examines this episode from the victims' perspective. Popular culture often portrays outlaws as misunderstood and even honorable men-Robin Hood figures-but as this history makes clear, they were stone-cold killers who preferred ambush over direct confrontation. They had no qualms about shooting people in the back. The LeSueur and Gibbons families that settled St. Johns, Arizona, served as part of a colonizing vanguard for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, popularly known as Mormons. They contended with hostile neighbors, an unforgiving environment, and outlaw bands that took advantage of the large mountain expanses to hide and escape justice. Deprivation and death were no strangers to the St. Johns colonizers, but the LeSueur-Gibbons murders shook the entire community, the act being so vicious and unnecessary, the young men so full of promise.By focusing the historian's lens on this incident and its aftermath, this exciting Western history offers fresh insights into the Wild Bunch gang, while also shedding new light on the Mormon colonizing experience in a gripping tale of life and death on the Arizona frontier.
The Advent Keepsake: A Text for Each Day of the Year is a classic small book, organized by the twelve months of the year, that features a text about the Second Coming of Christ or a related topic for each day of the year. This little book was first published by the Battle Creek Steam Press in 1868. It should interest all believers looking for the soon appearing of Christ. Of special interest to Seventh-day Adventists may be the fact that this little book was one of those included in the personal library collection of Ellen G. White.

People always wonder how a book like this comes to be . . .McArthur: I have spoken of Heavenly Mother to thousands of women. Every single time, I see the Spirit move women with such power. Women get lit on fire! I was thinking about what Mother in Heaven means to every single person, and I wanted to hear their voices. Ashli: I had a project on my heart. I felt inspired to create a book of poetry about Heavenly Mother that included the stunning artwork of Latter-day Saints who are inspired by this doctrine, a sort of "Grown-Up Girl's Guide to Heavenly Mother." For months, the Spirit prompted me to reach out to McArthur and I finally sent her a message. We spoke on the phone and gave ourselves twenty-four hours to pray about it. I fasted and went to the temple. As I enteredthe Celestial room and sat down to pray, the revelation came. "yes, Ashli! This joyful doctrine is true. This is our work. Write the book. Just make sure you are still pointing people to Christ." I called McArthur from the car and shared this revelation. She went quiet for a few moments, then replied, "Wow. I got the same revelation. Let's get to work!"Trina: I saw a social media post from McArthur and Ashli asking for contributions for a new Heavenly Mother book, and immediately wanted to be part of the project. I'm a writer and editor so that's a typical reaction to seeing book proposals. But this time felt different. It was a prompting I've had before: the Spirit points and says, "There. Go. Right now." And I am restless until I follow through. I'm not a poet or an artist, but I can organize the heck out of manuscripts. Within minutes, I sent McArthur a message. In a few more minutes, my phone rang and that was that.Joined together, we asked: What does Heavenly Mother mean to each of us? What does Heavenly Mother mean to others? This is not a book of doctrine. This is not a book of speculation. This is not a book intendedto answer all, or any, spiritual questions. This is a book of musings of the soul. Everyone was welcome to contribute. Every person is a beloved child of Heavenly Mother and Father, and that means something different toeach of us! The mediums of poetry and art are just two of many ways for us to communicate spiritually. If our Heavenly Parents are infinite beings, then there are infinite touch points to honor Them.We organized the contributions around the Gospel Topics Essay "Mother in Heaven," to support study of that vital document. We also included scriptures and quotes from prophets and other Church leaders to help guide us. The Church is the "scaffolding" to our faith, but we want to be clear that the vignettes are personal. We hope the offerings within these pages bring joy to your soul. You have a Mother in Heaven!
America's Choice asks, "What is the greatest challenge facing our society today?" The economy, national security, immigration, gun control, poverty, racism, crime, national pandemics, climate change? While each of these is a valid concern and deserves attention, none of them strikes at the heart of our greatest challenge, namely, finding a way to build stronger homes and in the process bringing about a return to family, God, and moral values. To put our prime focus on challenges other than these is to strike at the leaves, not the root of the problem. It is now our choice and America's choice - to place our trust in the wisdom of God or the wisdom of the world - to be a nation under God or without God. If we become a nation under God, then we become eligible to be recipients of the promise: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." (Psalm 33:12)
My husband and I have five adult children. In September 2021, our only son died of a drug overdose. Over the years, I've learned to obey the Scripture to hide God's Word in my heart so I will not sin against him, even in the worst circumstances that bring the deepest pain. When I received the news of his death, through the tears, I asked God, "Please help me see opportunities to bless you through this loss." I wanted to walk through this with hope, not bitterness; joy, not self-pity.This study is the compilation of my working through my grief, biblically. The Lord brought David's life to mind, with particular attention to Psalm 34. David says, "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praises shall continually be in my mouth." His life was a rollercoaster of devastation. God called him "a man after my own heart" because David was determined to live for God through any obstacle, even with repentance when he failed. David's life offers such amazing examples of blessing God through pain, loss, and fear.Running life's race with faith is a day-by-day choice to offer pain, self-pity, and bitterness to God in exchange for humility, joy, and hope. God's power will be made perfect in our weaknesses, he promises. I'm praying that by the end of this study you will learn how to exchange any obstacle for an opportunity to "bless the Lord." Not just to do that, but to bless the Lord at all times, letting his praises continually be in your mouth.
While The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has expanded many fundamental Christian doctrines, salvation is still understood as pertaining exclusively to the next life. How should we understand salvation and what does the timing of the Restoration reveal about God's vision of salvation for a suffering world? To answer these questions, author Ryan Ward traces the theological evolution of salvation from the liberation of Israel from oppression to the Western Christian development of salvation as an individualistic, transactional atonement. This evolution corresponded with the shift of Christianity from a covenant community to an official state religion aligned with imperial power structures. Ward also explores the economic and social movements in the centuries leading up to the Industrial Revolution, which solidified the power of propertied elites at the expense of the poor, plundered entire continents, and killed millions.Synthesizing these theological and historical threads, And There Was No Poor Among Them: Liberation, Salvation, and the Meaning of the Restoration asserts that the Restoration is God's explicit rejection of social and economic systems and ideologies that have led to the globalization of misery. Instead, Ward shows how the Restoration and the gospel of Christ is an invitation to a participatory salvation realized in Zion communities where "there are no poor among us."
Why Everyone Must Know the Sermon on the Mount:One of the greatest speeches ever given serves as a blueprint for the development of personal integrity, which is the starting point of creating an environment that provides equality and fair treatment of all.Christ's indisputable classic sermon offers penetrating words and demands action from Christians and non-Christians to stamp out a malaise of poverty and injustice. When the two powerful chapters recorded in the Book of Matthew are truly comprehended, they will move the reader out of their comfort zone, and prompt them to start making small steps to make changes to help others wherever they find themselves.Jesus Christ's first public preaching in the synagogue declared that His arrival brought hope to all: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed" (Luke 4:18 NKJ).To become an agent of change, we must begin with ourselves. In order to allow God's love to transform the hatred that we may feel toward someone, it involves unlearning the negative traits that were absorbed over the years; just like the blind man who begged Jesus to see, we too need to recognize that our own vision may be impaired, and we need to abandon the old biases and old way of doing things. Absorbing the learning is necessary until it becomes part of your character.Unfortunately, the transforming process appears to be weak for some Christians, and some live in a manner that is not very different from their unbelieving neighbor; their lives are inconsistent with the righteous principles found in the sermon. We need to be different from our unbelieving neighbors and thus embody the salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16). A life that is not transformed does not possess the saltiness that would differentiate it from others, nor is it able to be a light in the darkness. The sermon should demand a change in our behavior and challenge our convictions as to what is happening in the world around us. We need to be the "salt and light" in the world where there is much darkness to recognize that in order to inherit the eternal kingdom of heaven and enjoy a good life on earth, we must be concerned about providing a good life for others. What would the world look like if we really did follow Jesus's teachings and combined our efforts and resources to help others? Jesus warns against those who are just listeners and who do not adhere to His teachings: "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matthew 7:13-14).
