2 Peter and Jude are rich resources for understanding the call to live godly and holy lives. Dr. Uytanlet skillfully expounds these books to show that our understanding of false teachers should be broadened to include lifestyle and character.
This thirty-day devotional encompasses the entire letter that James wrote to believers.Geared to encourage readers to spend quality time with the Lord, each chapter is broken down by verses with a theme for each day. The daily theme offers you a precious opportunity to engage with the text and reflect on how selected Scriptures apply to your life.As you read, you'll consider questions such as:¿ How can you nurture a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ?¿ How can you apply the word of God in your daily life?¿ Why is the message of James so relevant to today's world? What we need more than ever is for believers to authentically put into action the life of Christ by how they live. James, the brother of Jesus, was inspired by God to help us achieve this goal by writing a simple approach to the gospel of Christ.Join the author as he explores how the teachings of James shine a spotlight on a path that will allow you to walk side by side with the Lord.
Deacon Frank Enderle, former Executive Director of the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Washington and former Director of Clergy Formation in the Diocese of Sacramento, began writing and publishing homilies in Spanish on the Internet in 2000. This book is the second in the Homilias/Homilies Domingo/Sunday Ciclo/Cycle B series. It contains 57 Spanish homilies with English translations. It is published specifically for those who preach who prefer to read the homilies in book format rather than on the Internet. The difference between this bilingual book and others is that these homilies were originally written in Spanish and translated into English, not vice-versa, as in other books. We hope that these books will be useful to native Spanish speakers who preach as well as to native English speakers who find they must preach in Spanish.
The glorious heights of devotion and knowledge are revealed here in this little book, and we are assured that the identical experience and realization are available to all.
"Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to us by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son."With these words, the writer of Hebrews draws us into one of the most profound and astonishing books in all of Holy Scripture. Angels, devils, signs and wonders, solemn warnings, the bodies of the defiant fallen in the wilderness, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God, a new high priest arising after the order of Melchizedek, the two unchangeable things by which God swears His faithfulness to us, the fulfillment of the pattern shown to Moses on Mount Sinai, a new Covenant written on our hearts, a new and living Way that fulfills the shadow of the Law, the dazzling array of those who by faith have conquered, our slow but sure approach to Mount Zion and the City of the consuming fire of the Living God; and, lifted high above all of these, the person and work of Jesus Christ, Who is the same yesterday, today and forever. The Most Holy Place is a daily prayer meditation and OT/NT Biblical synthesis based on the book of Hebrews, verse by verse, Monday through Saturday for fifty-two weeks. It is intended to be an aid to consistent and continuing reflection on the finished work of Jesus applied by the Holy Spirit in your life. May the Lord through this book continue to equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.Jeremy D. VoganStaunton, Virginia
Drawing on Jesus's example in the Gospel of Mark, this book offers an in-depth exploration of the nature of discipleship. A tool to help readers draw close to Jesus, it presents discipleship as a way of life centred on the journey back to God - a journey that integrates the quest for salvation, wholeness, and human fulfilment. Ultimately, the invitation to discipleship is an invitation to live in obedience to God and commitment to our fellow human beings, as Christ calls his followers not only to their own transformation but to participate in the transformation of others. At a time when secular culture is rediscovering the benefits of discipleship, this book invites readers into a powerful experience of identity formation based on the values of Christ and his kingdom.
These daily studies are generally divided into those occurrences found in the Old Testament and those found in the New Testament. Within that divide, related names are sometimes grouped together, and at other times the names are treated in alphabetical order. In a few instances, a single passage of Scripture may include multiple names, epithets and/or descriptions of God, and these are treated together in sequence. It would be impossible to be absolutely consistent apart from a pure alphabetical order or in order of first mention in the Bible, but those approaches seemed overly arbitrary. Occasionally these meditations have drawn from outside sources. Where that happens, we have given appropriate citations. At times abbreviations helped us with space management. For example, TWOT stands for the "Theological Word Book of the Old Testament" by R.L. Harris, G. L. Archer Jr., B. K. Waltke (Eds), (Chicago: Moody Press). The usual abbreviations of English versions are used, for example, NASB (which is the default version used in these meditations), NIV, ESV, etc. Most readers should be familiar with these. Also, another convention adopted for the sake of space is referring to the Old Testament and the New Testament as "OT" and the "NT" respectively.
