This book analyzes recent advances, trends, challenges and potentials of the role of media in disaster risk reduction. Collaboration, co-design and co-delivery with other stakeholders in science technology, private sectors, and civil society are found to be effective in reaching people and communities.The media is considered to be of utmost importance in all phases of disasters, before, during and after, with different types of media having different proactive roles to play in disaster risk reduction. Before disasters, they play essential roles not only in bringing early warning to people but also in enhancing their perception of the need to take action. This edited book summarizes numerous research studies on remote sensing and GIS of natural resource management for the Himalaya region done by Indian Institutions and Universities over the last decade. Lisbeth Storm har kendt flere katastrofer end de fleste. Strømmen forsvandt, og vildskaben voksede, efter en kraftig solstorm ramte Danmark. Og da hun flygtede til San Francisco med barn og mand, fulgte katastroferne med og truede med at knuse hende helt. Nu er Lisbeth tilbage. Sammen med resterne af sin familie forlader hun København til fordel for Falster, hvor hun endelig finder ro. Indtil en fremmed mand med mørke fugle tatoveret på sin ryg dukker op. Denne bog er en beretning om de to store jordskælv i Nepal i foråret 2015. Bogens forfatter, Janaki Khadka, bor i Kathmandu og er en af Himalayan Project’s lokale medarbejdere. HP’s aktiviteter i Nepal er koncentreret i Solu området, som ligger øst for hovedstaden op mod Himalaya. Aktiviteterne omfatter to hovedområder: scholarships til skolebørn og studerende samt forskellige byggeprojekter (skoler, sundhedsklinikker, energiforsyning, beskæftigelse o.a.). Bogen hoveddel består dels af Janakis personlige fortælling om sine oplevelser under jordskælvene, og dels børnenes beretninger indsamlet af Janaki ved hendes uddelinger af scholarships. Denne fortælling suppleres med Kurt Lomborg løbende opdateringer på Himalayan Projects hjemmeside med de beretninger som han modtog fra medarbejderne i Nepal. De giver et interessant billede af, hvordan informationerne fra det afsides Himalaya, hvor telefonforbindelserne er svagt udviklede, og yderligere forringede efter jordskælvet, kommer ind først hovedsageligt som rygter, der oftest er overdrevne og dramatiserede, for sidenhen gradvist at tegne et mere sandfærdigt billede af forholdene.

Hanna og hendes tolvårige datter Simone er flyttet op i et hus i Nordsjælland hvor Hanna skal foretage nogle miljøbiologiske undersøgelser af dyre- og plantelivet i vådområderne. Vejret opfører sig ikke normalt. Voldsomme storme og skybrud præger billedet temperaturerne er høje året rundt. Storme. Oversvømmelser. Naturen er under konstant forandring. Men er det her naturligt?
