Have you ever heard of the dirty little secret in the world of golf? It's hard to imagine how that could possibly relate to a first-generation Cuban-American family, their connection to Fidel Castro, and their struggles to survive on the gritty streets of inner-city New York in the 1970s. This is why Out of the Rough: The Cuban Revolution and its Effect on Golf is NOT your typical memoir. Eurice E. Rojas, a first-generation Cuban-American, takes readers on a journey through the tumultuous history of Cuba, his family's escape from communism, and his improbable partnership with the sport of golf. This captivating memoir also reveals personal, never-before-published pictures of a young Fidel Castro and offers a unique perspective on the Cuban Revolution. But it's not just a history lesson. Rojas shares his own story of growing up in a poor and diverse neighborhood in New York City, and developing an unlikely passion for golf. Although he pursued, unsuccessfully, a career on the professional golf tour, he utilized his golf skill sets to propel himself into a thriving corporate career. Rojas lifts the veil on amateur golfer abuse of the handicap system, and the covert practice of cheating in corporate golf outings and private club tournaments.Through it all, Out of the Rough serves as a powerful tribute to the tenacity of the human spirit and the profound impact of sports in transforming lives.

Augusta, Texas, goes inside the ropes and into the lives of the ten Masters Champions from the Lone Star State. From Ben Hogan to Ben Crenshaw to Jordan Spieth, Doug Stutsman has uncovered intimate details about how Texans have shaped the history of golf's most coveted major championship. At the 1958 Masters Tournament, a bridge dedication ceremony was held to honor Hogan and his childhood rival, Byron Nelson. Augusta National co-founder Bobby Jones served as master of ceremonies, and although his health left him unable to rise, Jones announced, "We've tried to dedicate these bridges to two men who have meant as much to this tournament as any two men ever have." Nelson was the first Texan to taste triumph at the fourth annual Masters, while nine others-most recently Scottie Scheffler in 2022-have followed the trail that Lord Byron paved. Ten winners; fifteen jackets. More than any other state. More than any foreign country. Moments after capturing the 1984 Masters, Ben Crenshaw called Brent "Bubs" Buckman, his roommate from the University of Texas."What was that like?" Buckman asked. "Walking up eighteen, knowing you had won the Masters." "Bubs," Crenshaw said. "The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up." Nearly forty years later, Stutsman asked Crenshaw to reflect on his first win at Augusta National. "The hair on my neck is still standing straight up," Gentle Ben said.
"In LIV and Let Die, Shipnuck delivers the inside story in real time, with fly-on-the-wall reporting from the yachts where LIV was hatched and within the corridors of power as the PGA Tour flailed to fend off the threat. Shipnuck has traveled seamlessly between both tours--having countless conversations with players, caddies, CEOs, agents, financiers, lawyers, flaks, fans, and Instagramming wives--to deliver a no-holds-barred account of the most chaotic moment in golf history. Anyone who has a stake in professional golf lined up for an interview with Shipnuck--because they knew everyone else was talking to him, too. The disruption to an old, proud sport was largely conducted in the shadows, but LIV and Let Die delivers numerous revelations about what really happened, and why."--Provided by publisher.
"Each course description is a beautiful, double-page spread (some are 4 pages), with a history of its design, construction and great rounds played; the highlights of playing there now, a locator map, length and par play, and green fees for the course -- because these are courses we dream of playing, not just looking at!"--
In April 2010, struggling architect Rob Collins of Chattanooga, Tennessee was looking for any way to get back into the golf course design business. When he learned his alma-mater Sewanee planned to renovate their mountain top nine-hole golf course with renowned architect Gil Hanse, he contacted Sewanee golf coach King Oehmig in hopes of getting involved in the project. This began an unlikely series of events which started the incredible saga of Sweetens Cove Golf Club.Sequatchie Valley Golf & Country Club was located the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, in the dead flat flood plain of Battle Creek. A "homemade, country golf course," it was much loved by many golfers in the area: not the least of which was Bob Thomas, successful businessman and founder of nearby Sequatchie Concrete Service. After his home course closed down due to financial difficulties, Thomas bought the 100-acre property in picturesque Sweetens Cove mere days before it was slated to become a horse farm. Under the guidance of his son Reece, what started as a simple renovation project of a run-down golf course turned into something much larger than anyone could have ever imagined. The Secret Home of Golf is the recounting of how a new, bold nine-hole course in rural Tennessee was created by King-Collins Golf, a then unknown and untested golf course design-build firm, and went on to become listed as one of the top 60 Modern Courses by Golfweek magazine. You will meet a cast of characters that were integral to the ultimate and unlikely survival of the course, which was days away from shutting down on multiple occasions. It is a story of sacrifice and almost unimaginable providence. The Secret Home of Golf tells the story of a man who refused to give up on his dream, and how his resilience and determination became one of the biggest success stories in modern-day golf.
There are many great golf instruction books and articles that have been written. And it is very difficult to compete with these great teachers and pros. But there is one thing that never changes, and that is the fundamentals of the golf swing. Once you have an understanding of these basics, any golfer can improve by studying his swing on a cell phone and diligently practicing his weaknesses. And needless to say, a good lesson once in a whilecan accelerate this process. This book goes a step further by giving the reader blank pages for notes after practice sessions or lessons. In other words an ongoing diary of your golf life. Believe me; it's a progression and process that needs to be recorded. Recalling the improvements in your golf game can be rewarding in many ways, just looking back to see what helped you in the past can help you now. And recording the important points of a lesson are two things worth referring to when your swing is not cooperating. Please remember to always have a positive attitude, relax, and never give up, and you will always be successful. May God guide you and bless you always.Bill Simpkins, Jr. and Kreta Chandler
I wrote this book to show what a great job caddieing is and the many opportunities it affords. It's a life-changing job. If done right by the caddie master, this can open doors to the caddies that never would have happened in other jobs. As a caddie master, I would set up the caddie to put them in the right situation. If the young caddie wanted to be an actor, lawyer, or car salesman or work on Wall Street, you would have them caddie for the members or guests that best suits their future ambitions. It's like a working interview. They can see how hard you work and how you interact with others and how professional you perform your job.As a caddie master, it is your absolute responsibility to inform the college-bound caddies of the caddie scholarship programs that are available. So hopefully, this book can inspire young kids into the great world of caddieing. It's a life changer!--Caddie Master Tim Peel

Named a finalist for the USGA's Herbert Warren Wind Award, golf literature's highest honor. Named one of the 10 Best Golf Books in 2022 by LINKS MagazineWhen Revelation Comes is the story of one man's search for peace. Along the way, he meets people whose compassion and empathy help him keep going. It's a story about fathers and sons. It's a story of a friendship between two people from different cultures and backgrounds. It's also a story of how a game can be a framework for life.On May 17, 2021, an unthinkable tragedy struck a tight knit family in the small town of Hartselle, Alabama. Jordan, a talented and promising junior golfer, died suddenly of an accidental drug overdose. He was only 21 years old. His father, Jim Hartsell, had spent most of the previous ten years supporting his son's attempt to succeed in the challenging world of junior and college golf. The grief was crushing, and the feeling of guilt overwhelming. When nothing else made sense, the author did the only thing he could think of: take a trip to his beloved Scotland in search for answers.Jim Hartsell had fallen in love with Scottish links golf as a child while watching the 1977 Open Championship at Turnberry, his father's favorite tournament. He and his father went on to take several trips to Scotland together, to places like Dunaverty, Machrihanish, and Cruden Bay. Visiting and studying the lesser-known golf courses of Scotland became a lifelong passion for Hartsell. Along the way, he also fell in love with Scotland and its people. When his life seemed over, that love was reciprocated and became his salvation. When Revelation Comes is a requiem for a lost child, and a parent's search for reasons to continue in the face of crushing grief. It's also a love letter to Scotland: it's golf, culture, and wonderful people. It's a reminder to look to the people and places around you: the answers to your questions may be there.
