Min store passion i livet: jagt og vildmarksoplevelser i Canada, er grundlaget for denne bog. I 2003 udgav jeg: Bjørnejagt i Canada. Og allerede dengang var jeg bevidst om, at min lyst til at fortsætte oplevelserne nok aldrig ville høre op. I denne bog har jeg samlet en række fortællinger, som ikke bør lade læseren i tvivl om, at jagt i den canadiske vildmark ofte kommer til at handle om alt muligt andet – end jagt. For: Jagt er jagt. Det er ligesom med vejret. Der gives ingen garantier for succes. Men succes er også meget andet end et gevir på væggen eller et flot bjørneskind på stuegulvet. Det er med dette indtryk af mangfoldighed i tekst og fotos, bogens fortællinger bør læses. Uddrag af bogen Øje for øje! Tand for tand! Hævnmotiv eller ej! Bjørn eller ulv. Skurken skulle findes og stilles til regnskab! Bevæbnet med en riffel egnet til formålet, en Marlin 444S, fulgte farmeren hestenes spor gennem terrænet. På det tidspunkt af dagen viftes dalens lunere luft bort af køligere luftstrømme fra bjergene, så farmeren kunne ikke præcist afgøre, hvorfra stanken fra et dødt dyrs indvolde kom. Men han vidste, at det første, en bjørn eller et Koppel ulve mæsker sig i, når et bytte er nedlagt, er indvoldene. Denne lugt ramte farmeren, som en forhammer! Om forfatterenVokset op på Sydfyn i 1950’erne med skov, sund og strand uden for hoveddøren; det var dengang, elektronikkens velsignelser bestod i et radioapparat og, gik det højt, et sort-hvid-tv på stuegulvet. Jeg var en fysisk meget aktiv dreng. Og havde jeg været en dreng i tiårsalderen i dag, ville jeg højst sandsynligt have fået mig en diagnose! Mit indhold i barndomsårene bestod af få ting. Duften af krudtrøg og skovbund, vindens hvisken i træernes bladhæng og den tids sentimentale countrymusik, og så elskede jeg julehøjtiden. Det gør jeg stadig. Skolegangen betød mindre. Faktisk slet ingenting. I timerne drømte jeg mig ind i Nordamerikas store skove. Jeg lovede dengang mig selv, at der ville jeg over engang. Og det kom jeg.

”Knæk og bræk” er nu til dags den gængse hilsen til jægeren om en vellykket jagt – selv for mange ikke-jægere. ”Arme og ben brækken” var en tidligere udgave af samme hilsen. Jagtsproget veksler mellem ofte besynderlige benævnelser, der er helt uden mening for den uindviede, og specifikke fagtermer anvendt i bøssemagerens værksted og lånt fra biologi, skovbrug og landbrug. Blandt disse findes helt regionale eller endda lokale betegnelser eller benævnelser.Jægerlatin er en anden betegnelse for jægerens særlige ordforråd, og i denne nudanske udgave er der samlet næsten 1.200 ord og vendinger, der anvendes på dansk jagt i dag, og som bruges af jægere, som de er flest.Bogen henvender sig derved til alle jægere og jagtinteresserede.

Jagthunde er uløseligt forbundet med jagten i Danmark og har derfor altid indgået i mange af jagtens discipliner og facetter. De foretrukne racer har været forskellige over tid og været tilpasset de eksisterende jagtmuligheder. Dertil har udvikling og udbredelse af fangst- og jagtredskaber spillet en afgørende rolle for hundenes opgaver og anvendelse på jagt og derfor avlen.I denne bog beskrives 36 af de i Danmark hyppigst forekommende racer inddelt i grupper på baggrund af deres jagtlige anvendelse. Grupperne er således: støvere, korttidsdrivende hunde, gravsøgende hunde, stødende hunde, apporterende hunde, stående hunde samt schweisshunde.Foruden de mest almindeligt forekommende jagthunderacer præsenteres også sjældnere racer fra udlandet og racer, der på sigt ville kunne bidrage til jagten i Danmark.Bogen er tilegnet jægere og hundeførere, erfarne som nye, og giver et overblik over racerne med henblik på at kunne sammenligne dem inden for og på tværs af grupper.

Karen Blixens far Wilhelm Dinesen var en ivrig jæger, der elskede naturen og dyrene.Under pseudonymet Boganis, der betyder Hasselnød på indiansk, skrev han i slutningen af 1800-tallet en række jagtbreve, der er kendetegnet ved deres fine naturiagttagelser. Han har også skrevet fængslende skildringer af sine soldateroplevelser i krigen i 1864, den fransk-tyske krig 1870-71 og om Pariserkommunen i 1871. Han er i 2013 blevet portrætteret af Tom Buk-Swienty i den stort anlagte biografi "Kaptajn Dinesen". Han er far til den klassiske danske forfatter Karen Blixen.

“Sort og Hvid Magi” kommer helt tæt på kafferbøfler, Afrikas mest farlige af de berømte fem store. betragtes det uhyre sjældne fænomen White Buffalo som varsel om bedre tider, men også som en påmindelse om vores samhørighed med naturen og det guddommelige.Undervejs i bogen præsenteres læseren for de vidt forskellige miljøer, hvor jagterne udspiller sig. Det er ikke kun jagt i sump og regnskov. Det er også bøffeljagt på 
afrikanske, australske og sydamerikanske sletter og på fjeldskråninger helt tæt på indlandsisen. Især begrebet jagt bliver vendt og drejet i en række dialoger. Artiklerne er skrevet og illustreret som reportager.
