Bleiplomben aus dem 19. und 20. Jahrhundert zählen zu den häufigsten Ackerfunden, die im Rahmen archäologischer Untersuchungen oder Begehungen mit Metalldetektoren gemacht werden. Allerdings sind solche Plomben, im Gegensatz zu antiken und mittelalterlichen Tuch- und Warenplomben, bisher kaum systematisch untersucht. Dabei sind diese neuzeitlichen Bleiplomben unabhängige archäologische Zeugen der großen wirtschaftlichen Umbrüche der Industrialisierung des 19. Jahrhunderts und geben zusätzlich Informationen über lokale Wirtschaftsbeziehungen. Daher versucht das vorliegende Buch diese Lücke zu schließen und eine schnelle Identifizierungshilfe zu liefern. 220 verschiedene Bleiplomben des deutschsprachigen Raums werden systematisch erfasst und vorgestellt. Darunter sind Düngemittel-, Eisenbahn-, Salz-, Zoll-, Steuer- und sonstige Warenplomben. Jede Plombe wird mit vergrößerten Farbfotos dargestellt und ist mit Angaben zu Motiv, Gestaltung, Text, Gewicht und Durchmesser versehen.
