I still couldn't stand magic... even though the woman I loved was one of the most powerful necromancers in the Watch. Things were heating up between Lilly and I. Pretty soon, she was spending more time at my house than she was at her own. I liked to think it was because of me, not just because she wanted to be closer to the Brownies in my basement. I was content with things the way they were. At least, until I heard the wailing and found myself well on my way to checking out. That was just the beginning, although we didn't know that yet. Soon, the city was overrun by bugs, foul-mouthed birds, and shapeless blobs. To top it all off, a small minotaur decided he wanted to be my sidekick. And it was all because someone wanted to destroy the city. Grab an ale, and don't forget mine while you're at it. Sit back and get comfortable. It's a long story, but it's a good one.
