Over the years, I have taught hundreds of people to paint using a method I developed specifically for my workshops. Students have ranged from professional artists to complete beginners, some that had never even thought of drawing or painting before.I painted for many years in acrylic. I still love acrylics for some subjects, but for others, I definitely want to choose oils. My personal take on those two mediums is that acrylics are harder to do but easier to learn and oils are easier to do but harder to learn! The good news is, with a few simple techniques and some clear instruction, you can circumvent all the pitfalls that normally come with learning to paint in oils and jump right into the easier part! In this book, you will learn: the most important thing to understand when it comes to realismhow to begin a painting so that it is ultimately successfulhow to easily mix the colours you seewhat supplies to buy and how to use themhow to paint fur and other textureshow paint eyes that come to lifepainting backgrounds that work Discover the keys to painting lifelike portraits of dogs with plenty of step-by-step illustrations for every part of the process.Welcome to my Workshop!

The animals I paint are the everyday workers, the faithful companions. With my paintings I aim for a feeling of connection, of comfort and familiarity. I love to work with colour and shadow, light and texture, all the while keeping in mind that the emotion conveyed and felt by the viewer is my main focus. This has been my passion and my living for over 40 years. I work in Acrylic and in Oils, always realism, but at times highly detailed, at other times, more painterly. I have sold my work in numerous galleries, juried shows and exhibitions in Canada and the US. My paintings are in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, and abroad.
