Case Study from the year 2010 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: This study aimed at evaluating the impact of worker¿s participation in the decision-making process on job satisfaction, industrial harmony, and productivity in organizations, with particular reference to the Universal Basic Education Board in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Built around the survey design, two hundred and eighty-four (284) respondents were reached through a multi-stage sampling method and questionnaire was used as the instrument for collecting primary data, while relying on the library for secondary data. Data from the field was subjected to description by simple percentages, but drawing of inference was done through the use of the chi-square statistical test. Pivoted by the Achievement-Power-Affiliation motivation theory of David Mcclelland, the study acknowledges the difficulty in measuring productivity in this context. Data that emerge reveal that there is a direct relationship between the degree of workers¿ participation in the various organizational decision making processes and job satisfaction, industrial harmony, and productivity. The study, thus, concludes that if workers actively participate in the decision making processes of organization, certainly job satisfaction would breed industrial harmony, which ultimately would ensure higher productivity. To this end, the study recommends, among others, that industrial unions in organizations be strengthened by managements, and workers should be enlightened on their right to seize opportunity of involvement in decision making and trained in the art of constructive participation in the various processes in organizations.
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict, Security, , course: Postgraduate research at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, language: English, abstract: This study examines sea piracy and security challenges of maritime business in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. To achieve the objectives of this study, three research hypotheses were formulated. A cross sectional survey research design was adopted; the population of the study comprise of maritime business operators in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. A Sample of 215 sea business operators in 9 waterfronts cutting across the three senatorial districts of Bayelsa State was selected by simple random sampling. A Likert Scale questionnaire on ¿Sea Piracy and Security Challenge¿ was developed by the researcher and administered to 24 respondents which formed part of data collected. The Routine Activity Theory which is associated with Lawrence Cohen and Marcus Felson was adopted as the theoretical guide of this study. Three null hypotheses were tested using regression analysis (r) at 0.05 level of significance. Results from the findings shows that, the three hypotheses were rejected. The study found amongst others, that sea piracy affects sea faring and fishing business significantly in Bayelsa State. It therefore recommends that concerted efforts aimed at increasing and equipping security agencies responsible for policing Bayelsa State territorial waters should be the major concern of the government and other stakeholders in the maritime sector.
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: This study investigates factors responsible for salary fraud in Bayelsa State Civil Service, Nigeria. The study adopted ex-post-facto research design. Data were gathered from secondary sources. Robert K. Merton¿s anomie theory was adopted as the study¿s theoretical framework. The study found that the crime of salary fraud persists in Bayelsa State civil service despite measures taken by government to stem it. It also discovered that the challenges such as lack of adequate funds and corruption confronting the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) are responsible for the futile prosecution of culprits. Based on these discoveries, the study recommends amongst others, that Bayelsa State Government should train Forensic accountants to man all her Ministries, Departments, and Agencies as a proactive measure to check fraud.
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2018 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: The study examined the impact of sea robbery on artisanal fishing in Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The study is survey based; A Sample of 400 was derived using Taro Yamane sample size determination technique. Questionnaires and oral interview were the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC). The results revealed that there is a significant relationship between sea robbery and artisanal fishing which implies that the continuing existence of the activities of sea robbers in our territorial waters will result to poor fish harvest because fishermen are scared of fishing in deep waters where there is fish abundance. Consequent upon this, it is recommended, among others, community policing especially hotspots communities along the waterways and creeks of the Niger Delta region.
