Originally published in 1934, this book examines the Modernist movement in Roman Catholicism from its beginnings around 1890 until its conclusion around 1910. Vidler examines the pre-Modernist condition of Catholicism in France, Germany, Italy and England and the outcome of the modernist movement both within and outside of the Catholic Church.
In this expanded and annotated version of his Lectures Dr Vidler shows that the modernists differed much from one another both in temperament and in ideas.
