Barbara Cartland var en af verdens mest produktive og bedstsælgende forfattere. Hun blev født i England i 1901 og døde i 2000. Barabara Cartland er kendt for sine romantiske og letlæselige romaner, som hun formåede at skrive hele 723 af. Hun havde en rolig opvækst i et engelsk middelklassehjem, men da hendes far senere blev dræbt under 1. verdenskrig, måtte moderen starte en tøjforretning, for at tjene penge til familien. Det var en lidt presset til for familien. Efter endt skolegang, begyndte Barbara Cartland at arbejde som sladderjournalist for den engelske avis ”Daily Express”. Hun udgav sin første roman ”Puslespil” i 1922. Det var en thriller, der tydeligvis var inspireret af hendes virke som sladderjournalist. Barbara Cartland var en markant personlighed i datidens England. Hun var således kendt for at holde en række dristige og festlige sammenkomster for Londons bedre borgerskab. Derudover var hun også fjernt beslægtet med Lady Diana, hvilket hun var meget stolt over. Barbara Cartlands mange bøger indeholder alle drama, romantik og kærlighed. Blandt andet kan bøgerne ”Mod himlens stjerner” og ”Kærlighedens fange” nævnes som gode eksempler på dette.
