Remember when the refrigerator would stop humming and it was only then you realized it was humming? We're so used to being in motion that daily activities become the refrigerator hum, so we often stop thinking about how to change some of them. Having unconsciously accepted them as "how it is" we become content with the hum while we're on a kind of mental cruise control. We don't stop to think that just seeing things from even a slightly different perspective can be enough to turn the hum off. These aren't just poems. They are word levers. They are changes in perspective. Not perspectives in literature books but those you encounter daily. While reading them you will notice the hum cease.
How do you find meaning in a culture that magnifies mostly temporary things? How can you rest when all is designed for restlessness? You clear an inner space, ponder some new angles that have roots, then evict the freeloading, rootless narratives.Just as we can't stay underwater long before coming back up for air, we can't bear meaninglessness long before we have to return to or find meaning in things. When we don't, we can't breathe, and the atmosphere seems poisonous as we struggle to inhale a purpose that makes sense again. We're so wired for meaning that, if things get bad enough, we'll impose one on reality that nobody sees but us. Or if we finally accept that all things are meaningless, we become candidates for suicide. These days we're getting used to those who take others with them. These poems and commentary are designed to highlight many aspects of meaning. The world is a meaningful place but not in the sense that it caters to the photoshopped version of things we're soaking in. There is no shortage of meaning, only many wrong ways of trying to put it in a headlock to suit our egos.I try here to show varied glimpses of meaning through poems in hope that the reader can, as it were, share an oxygen mask with me until we can get to the surface.Every day is an opportunity for meaning, if only we allow it.Order your copy today and take a new breath.
