    È evidentissimo che i fiori del maggior numero delle piante, sono costruiti in modo da essere, o abitualmente o accidentalmente fecondati per incrocio, col mezzo del polline d¿un altro fiore posto, o sulla stessa pianta, o più generalmente, come vedremo in seguito, su una pianta diversa. Talvolta la fecondazione incrociata è assicurata dalla separazione dei sessi; il più delle volte essa lo è perchè la maturità del polline e dello stigma non avviene contemporaneamente. ¿ Tali piante si chiamano dicogame, e furono divise in due sottoclassi: le proterandre, nelle quali il polline matura prima dello stigma, e le protenogine, nelle quali avviene il contrario;

    Lo scopo del presente libro si è di dimostrare che gli apparecchi, col mezzo dei quali vengono fecondate le Orchidee, sono altrettanto varii e quasi egualmente perfetti come qualsiasi dei più belli adattamenti del regno animale; e in secondo luogo tende a dimostrare che lo scopo principale di questi apparecchi è la fecondazione dei fiori con polline trasportato dagli insetti da un¿altra pianta. Nel mio libro Sulla Origine delle specie ho esposto solo delle idee generali in sostegno della opinione che gli organismi superiori abbisognano, in virtù di una legge generale, di tratto in tratto d¿un incrociamento con un altro individuo; oppure, ciò che vale lo stesso, che nessun ermafrodita si ...

    Fui tratto a questo soggetto da uno scritto breve, ma interessante, del professore Asa Gray sui movimenti dei viticci d'alcune piante Cucurbitacee . Le mie osservazioni erano giunte più che alla metà prima ch'io apprendessi avere Palm e Hugo von Mohl osservato lungo tempo fa il fenomeno sorprendente delle rivoluzioni spontanee degli steli e dei viticci delle piante rampicanti, ed essere questo fenomeno stato successivamente il soggetto di due Memorie di Dutrochet . Nondimeno credo che le mie osservazioni, fondate sull'esame d'oltre a cento specie viventi assai distinte, contengano novità sufficienti per giustificarne la pubblicazione.

    Respinto indietro due volte, da un forte vento di sudovest, il brigantino da guerra Beagle della regia marina inglese, comandato dal capitano FitzRoy, salpò finalmente da Devonport il 27 dicembre 1831. La spedizione aveva per iscopo di fare una ispezione compiuta della Patagonia e della Terra del Fuoco, ispezione cominciata dal capitano King dal 1826 al 1830 ¿ esaminare le spiaggie del Chilì, del Perù e quelle di alcune isole del Pacifico ¿ e fare una serie di misure cronometriche intorno al mondo. Giungemmo il 6 gennaio a Teneriffa, ma non ci fu permesso sbarcare, perchè si temeva a terra che noi portassimo loro il cholera. L¿indomani mattina vedemmo spuntare il sole dietro lo scosceso p...

    ""More Letters of Charles Darwin: A Record of His Work in a Series of Hitherto Unpublished Letters V1"" is a collection of letters written by the renowned naturalist and scientist Charles Darwin. The book offers a unique glimpse into Darwin's life and work, as it contains letters that have never before been published. These letters cover a range of topics, from Darwin's scientific research and experiments to his personal life and relationships. They also provide insight into the intellectual and social milieu of the time, as Darwin corresponded with other prominent scientists and thinkers of the day. This volume is the first in a series of books that will make available to the public all of Darwin's known letters. It is an essential resource for anyone interested in the history of science, the life of Charles Darwin, or the development of evolutionary theory.""1903. Part One of Two. Edited by Francis Darwin and A.C. Seward. Illustrated. Including an Autobiographical Chapter. A selection of letters written by Darwin, the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural selection. The volume contains a series of letters, now published for the first time, prepared so as to give as full an idea as possible of the course of Mr. Darwins work. Het boek ""Het Ontstaan Der Soorten Van Dieren En Planten Door Middel Van De Natuurkeus"" (1860) van Charles Darwin is een baanbrekend werk in de wetenschap van de evolutiebiologie. In dit boek presenteert Darwin zijn theorie van natuurlijke selectie, waarin hij betoogt dat soorten evolueren door middel van een proces van overleving en reproductie van de best aangepaste individuen aan hun omgeving. Darwin bespreekt uitgebreid de bewijzen die hij heeft verzameld voor zijn theorie, waaronder de observatie van variatie in soorten, de geologische geschiedenis van de aarde en de vergelijkende anatomie van dieren en planten. Het boek was controversieel vanwege de implicaties van de evolutietheorie voor religieuze en filosofische opvattingen over de oorsprong van het leven en de mensheid. Niettemin heeft het boek een enorme invloed gehad op de wetenschap en de samenleving en wordt het beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste wetenschappelijke werken ooit geschreven.This Book Is In Dutch.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Das Buch ""Die Wirkungen der Kreuz- und Selbstbefruchtung im Pflanzenreich"" von Charles Darwin wurde im Jahr 1877 verffentlicht. In diesem Werk untersucht Darwin die Auswirkungen von Kreuz- und Selbstbefruchtung auf das Pflanzenreich. Er beschreibt, wie sich diese beiden Arten der Fortpflanzung auf die Gesundheit und Fruchtbarkeit von Pflanzen auswirken und welche Vorteile und Nachteile sie haben. Darwin analysiert auch die genetischen Vernderungen, die durch die Kreuz- und Selbstbefruchtung entstehen knnen und wie sich dies auf die Evolution von Pflanzen auswirkt. Das Buch ist ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Botanik und zur Evolutionstheorie und hat bis heute Einfluss auf die Forschung in diesen Bereichen.This Book Is In German.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The great principle of inheritance to be discussed in this chapter has been recognised by agriculturists and authors of various nations, as shown by the scientific term ATAVISM, derived from atavus, an ancestor; by the English terms of REVERSION, or THROWING-BACK; by the French PAS-EN-ARRIERE; and by the German RUCKSCHLAG, or RUCKSCHRITT. When the child resembles either grandparent more closely than its immediate parents, our attention is not much arrested, though in truth the fact is highly remarkable; but when the child resembles some remote ancestor or some distant member in a collateral line, -and in the last case we must attribute this to the descent of all the members from a common progenitor, -we feel a just degree of astonishment. When one parent alone displays some newly-acquired and generally inheritable character, and the offspring do not inherit it, the cause may lie in the other parent having the power of prepotent transmissi
