In this follow up, to "The Gun Player," old Tom Moore recounts the time when his friend Ben Culley returns to Rocky Springs for a visit. Tom, meets Ben at the new railroad station and they stop by at the Sheriff's office. Within minutes, Tom is called upon to sort out trouble in Andy's saloon, but stepping outside his office, he has an accident, and sprains his ankle. Ben steps in straightaway and manages to calm things down. The following day, Tom finds it difficult to cope, and Ben, once more wears a badge; albeit deputy. Ben manages to foil a train robbery and imprisons three men, but they escape; with Tom and Ben in hot pursuit. This takes them to the lawless town of Kenley Flats and beyond, until finally they are captured in a most remarkable way. Lawless sympathizers aid their escape, but Tom and Ben are determined, however, out in the wild brush, whilst brewing some coffee, Ben and Tom decide to give up the chase, until one of the outlaws staggers into their midst and hands himself over. He tells of his two cohorts being captured by Indians and pleads with Tom and Ben to help find them. The Indians take Ben and Tom back to their camp where they explain their children are being kidnapped by men working at a mine. The outlaws agree to help Tom and Ben find the children and return them. With this accomplished they were horrified when they come across a stage coach that has been robbed and everyone inside killed. The three outlaws decide to help Tom and Ben catch the gang responsible, and track them down to a lawless town. The three outlaws are now reformed men. With this accomplished, one stays behind as Sheriff. On the way back to Rocky Springs, another town is rid of a pair of killers, and another of the now ex-outlaws is offered the job as Sheriff. Tom offers the remaining man the job of deputy at Rocky Springs; so the three happy-go-lucky outlaws are completely transformed.
