The first part of the Machine Tools and Production Systems Compendium presents the wide range of machine tools and a comprehensive overview of different machine types. Based on the categorization of manufacturing processes according to the German standard DIN 8580, the different areas of application of machine tools are delineated and the various machine designs, the mechanical structure as well as the functions of the machine types are explained.

The conference proceedings of the 4th Conference for Wind Power Drives (CWD) contains the collected contributions of the congress which took place on the 12th and 13th of March, 2019. The latest developments and innovations are presented in 37 articles covering the following topics: Gearbox - Torque Density, Gearbox - System Performance, Grid Conformity, Generator, Drive Train Concepts, Roller Bearings - Design and Testing, Roller Bearings - Loads, Wind 4.0 - Potential of Data Analytics, Wind 4.0 - Predictive Maintenance & Reliability, Plain Bearings and Condition Monitoring.The CWD has been held every two years since 2013 and acts as an interdisciplinary platform for knowledge and technology transfer between developers, researchers and operators. Furthermore, the conference promotes networking between industry and university in the field of wind turbinedrive trains. The conference is supported by Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) the Research Association for Drive Technology (FVA) and the IEEE Power Electronics Society.

Die hohe Entwicklungsgeschwindigkeit im immer noch jungen Bereich Windenergie führt zu neuen Herausforderungen auf dem Gebiet der Antriebstechnik von Windenergieanlagen (WEA). Zur Gewährleistung und Erhöhung der Zuverlässigkeit von WEA, auch im Hinblick auf die geringe Langzeiterfahrung mit den aktuellen Leistungsklassen, ist es notwendig, Entwicklungen und Innovationen im Bereich von Regelungs-, Berechnungs- und Prüfverfahren voranzutreiben und neue Prüfmöglichkeiten zu erschließen. Im Rahmen der zweiten Conference for Wind Power Drives (CWD) am 3. und 4. März 2015 im Eurogress Aachen wird der neueste Stand der Forschung und Technik im Bereich der Triebstränge sowie Pitch- und Yawsysteme von Windenergieanlagen präsentiert. Die CWD versteht sich als interdisziplinäre Plattform zum Erfahrungs- und Ideenaustausch zwischen Entwicklern, Forschern und Anwendern und soll darüber hinaus die Kommunikation zwischen Industrie und Hochschule in der Windbranche fördern.The high speed of development within the still young sector wind energy leads to new challenges in the field of wind turbine (WT) drive trains. Regarding little long term experience with current WT power levels, developments in the range of control, design and test procedures must be furthered and new test facilities have to be made accessible to ensure and increase reliability of WT. To present the state of the art and innovations in the field of wind turbine generator drive trains and pitch-/ yaw-systems the second Conference for Wind Power Drives (CWD) will be taking place on 3rd and 4th of March 2015 in Eurogress Aachen. The CWD is designed as an interdisciplinary platform for knowledge and technology transfer between developers, research scientists and operators. Furthermore, the conference promotes exchange between industry and academia in the field of wind turbine drive trains.

The first part of this volume provides the user with assistance in the selection and design of important machine and frame components. It also provides help with machine design, calculation and optimization of these components in terms of their static, dynamic and thermoelastic behavior. This includes machine installation, hydraulic systems, transmissions, as well as industrial design and guidelines for machine design. The second part of this volume deals with the metrological investigation and assessment of the entire machine tool or its components with respect to the properties discussed in the first part of this volume. Following an overview of the basic principles of measurement and measuring devices, the procedure for measuring them is described. Acceptance of the machine using test workpieces and the interaction between the machine and the machining process are discussed in detail.The German Machine Tools and Manufacturing Systems Compendium has been completely revised. The previous five-volume series has been condensed into three volumes in the new ninth edition with color technical illustrations throughout. This first English edition is a translation of the German ninth edition.

The first part of this third volume focuses on the design of mechatronic components, in particular the feed drives of machine tools used to generate highly dynamic drive movements. Engineering guides for the selection and design of important machine components, the control technology of feed drives, and the measuring systems required for position capture are presented. Another focus is on process and diagnostic equipment for manufacturing machines and systems. The second part describes control concepts including programming methods for various applications of modern production systems. Programmable logic controllers (PLC), numerical controllers (NC) and robot controllers (RC) are part of these presentations. In the context of automated manufacturing systems, the various levels of the automation pyramid and the importance of control systems are also outlined.
