God wants His people to meet with Him every day, but in addition to our daily time with Him, God has set up specific days on which He will meet with His people. What is the sign of Jonah? The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Yeshua (Jesus) asking for a sign that proved He was the Messiah. He chided them that, although they could read the signs in the sky about upcoming weather, they could not understand the signs heralding the coming of the Messiah. Disgusted with them, He told them the sign that they were missing. This sign was the sign of Jonah.Matthew 16:4 NKJV 4 "A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them and departed.Yeshua's words indicate that this sign should have been one they were familiar with. Although earlier in His ministry, Yeshua explained what this sign is, in this interchange, He references the sign of Jonah without telling them what He is talking about. In other words, Yeshua is giving them a big hint if they have the motivation to refer to their own scriptures, the sign should be obvious.
