Essay from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of South Wales, language: English, abstract: Every organisation usually has its own individual strategy in order to achieve its main objectives. Nevertheless, every organisation is also influenced by environmental issues which have an impact on its performance, financial development, growth or in particular its reputation. With regard to the last key word, there is strong debate whether it is a beneficial measure for an organisation to include Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to gain strategic and competitive advantages (Ceglinski and Wisniewska, 2016, p. 11) on a long-term basis or whether CSR is just its reaction to environmental issues but without any strategic benefit. Firstly, this essay will clarify the historical development of CSR, its importance for current organisations in general and which environmental issues give them a reason to include CSR in their daily business under consideration of the increasing public demand for an organisation¿s ethical awareness with regard to its activities. Secondly, it will afterwards critically compare the theories of Milton Friedman and Edward Freeman with regard to CSR in order to analyse whether an organisation can even have social responsibilities considering the fact that companies have different strategic orientations in the business area they are operating in. Thirdly, it will critically evaluate the direct strategic benefits of CSR and also the risks and disadvantages for an organisation that might occur of its implementation. Finally, the conclusion will clarify whether there is a clear strategic benefit in CSR for an organisation or whether the main focus of CSR are the environmental influences.

Document from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of South Wales, language: English, abstract: Due to the fact that Multinational Enterprises (MNEs), who are continually present in the shipping sector, tend to get involved internationally on an increased level, this report is going to analyse ¿Evergreen¿ who is one of the largest shipping container carriers in the world. Every company which is involved in international business operations and has the aim to both increase its competitiveness on a transnational level and also to extend its commercial activities will face specific issues in a global business environment. Particularly, so-called Multinational Enterprises, firms who operate across several borders, ¿have to take numerous strategic decisions¿ (Schmid, 2018) in order to achieve their main objectives as for example the maximisation of wealth for their stakeholder as well as shareholders.First of all, this report is going to present an internal analysis of the company¿s strengths and weaknesses with a main focus on the economy, plus the company¿s competitive position. Above that, positive as well as negative factors of the country Taiwan where Evergreen is founded and headquartered will be shown. In addition to it, an external analysis will be carried out to locate new potential markets for an international expansion. All analyses will be supported by appropriate analytical frameworks. In the end, considering all the mentioned arguments and analysed aspects, a reasonable conclusion will be set up in order to provide a decision.

Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Employee Motivation, grade: 1,4, University of Salford, language: English, abstract: To extend the knowledge about the topic 'rewards' and to add academic value to the already existing topic-related publications, the research aim of this study was to explore the improvability of reward mentalities in the shipping sector. Specifically focusing a shipping company located in Germany, the research question was based on how they could optimise their reward and benefit systems in the future. To get a deeper analysis and also to combine given literature to the topic with the current reality, an interview as a form of qualitative data collection was conducted with 14 full-time employees of different hierarchical management levels in four different departments: Sales, Customer Service, IT and Human Resource; deployed in two German offices. The researcher chose the Non-probability Sampling approach focussing on Purposive Sampling and the results were reviewed with thematic analysis through which five main themes came out as a result: overall satisfaction, extrinsic rewards, intrinsic motivation, innovativeness and areas of improvability. These links significantly helped to combine the findings with the critically discussed literature so that further conclusions were generated. The results showed that the effective strategic use of rewards, especially of extrinsic nature both in a monetary and non-monetary way, have a key role in increasing job satisfaction and enhancing innovative mind-set which can be fuelled into company's success. Moreover, the findings brought a new perspective on the commonalities and differences of employee's and management's view on rewards at work and also delivered new impulses in anticipation on how this and conceivably other companies can improve their reward mentality. In the end, different recommendations were given both for the company and future research.
