A book for adult believers focusing on spiritual growth from the viewpoint of a marathon runner.
It's a jungle out there, Ed!" That's what my friend, Jeff, said to me recently at a Bible Study. He wasn't exaggerating, and he certainly wasn't a naïve type believer. He was just honestly and unguardedly referring to the difficult struggles and stresses of the environment in which we live. All around us, the onslaught of social and political liberalism, sexual immorality, and amoral lifestyles are waging an all out war against Biblical faith and values. Trying to live the Christian life with spiritual purity and without compromise has never been more challenging. Christian principles and character have been an essential part of our early American roots, particularly in the writing of the Constitution and in the foundation of law. Our schools used the Bible as a text book, and politicians constantly referred with trust to its moral principles for direction. Prayer was part of the school day, and belief in God was espoused even at the college level. But, liberalism has destroyed this and replaced it with a new and inclusive religion...political correctness. So, how do we live for Christ within a culture that has turned its back on its own spiritual foundation? That is the focus of this book, and we will present a strategic set of Biblical survival principles for your review. Applying them will enable us to survive the rapacious environment of this 21st century spiritual jungle.
When I was a young boy, my father used to tell me these story book adventures of a funny, friendly and world travelling worm by the name of Joe...Joe Worm, as he named him. Joe would leave his comfortable little tomato can home in the Pottsville dump and, along with his friend, Blacki the crow, he would seek out adventure in the world of humans. In this first adventure, Joe and Blacki discover some dangerous thieves stealing a treasure from a sunken Spanish ship. With the help of Sam Squirrel, Sir Bogie, and a crack team of canine helpers, he and Blacki assist the police in apprehending these crooks and in returning the treasure to its rightful place. Other adventures in upcoming stories include capturing swamp villains, horse thieves, head hunters, oil profiteers and...well, a whole bunch of unsavory characters that Joe must overcome. Joe's character may be funny at times, and the crazy adventures he gets into quite exciting. But, above it all, he tries to be a "worm of character," as he puts it, one who believes in God and tries to please him in all that he does. Along with Blacki's inner sense of wisdom and foresight, Joe always makes it out safely from the dangers that befall him. I hope these adventures are as intriguing and exciting for readers as they were for me. Each story is loaded with both adventure and character quotes for young readers to discuss and target for personal growth. Underneath it all, these snippets of spiritual light will challenge both kids - even adults - regarding God's expectations for our lives.
Insightful lessons on how to live a pure and obedient life for Jesus Christ in a world that is running from Biblical principles and values. Strategic spiritual alternatives enable the reader to identify what is better and best.
This book is a follow-up to the popular "Cabin In The Woods," a collection of life experiences I had when moving to a rural town in central Connecticut. We took up residence in an old, rustic cabin, which sat deep in the woods on a hillside knoll. There was no running water, no bathroom, no heat and no electricity, only a huge stone fireplace. In the years that followed, we built a sizable house around that cabin, but God's "country education" never stopped offering me some unique classes in spiritual living. God blessed me with many fantastic learning experiences from those formative years. When I share them, people really enjoy the country settings, as well as the heart-felt lessons they bring. They stir their emotions and often bring back the memories they themselves have, when they were young and adventurous, too. This book is a follow-up to that book and is arranged as follows: "More Early Cabin Years" "The Teen Years" "The College Years" So, here's another bunch that God used to teach me about who He is and what He wanted for my life...I hope you enjoy them!
"Learning To Walk" is the first of several booklets for following-up a young person's initial commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It provides a sound foundation for the new believer, enabling him or her to identify strategic tools for spiritual growth. Topics deal with understanding the Bible and prayer, helpful discussions about life and death, the importance of both fellowship and witnessing, and frank discussions about spiritual standards. Each topic has personalized notes, as if one was reading a letter from an encouraging friend. There's also plenty of Scripture and clear, Biblical teaching to help the young believer learn how to move securely toward Christian maturity. This is the first book in a series of new believer resource materials, after which comes "Learning To Follow" and "Learning To Become."
As a young boy of ten, I had the privilege of watching our house being built in the then rural town of Cheshire, Connecticut. My parents bought 6 acres of land, which had an old rustic cabin sitting on a small knoll half way up a wooded hill. We got there in late spring and started building our new home around the cabin, which would ultimately become the living room in the middle of this 75' long, split level ranch. I remembered all the fun and learning experiences I had growing up there in my book, "The Cabin In The Woods." This book applies the construction process to building a strong and enduring spiritual house for believers. There are 3 overall areas of spiritual application, with short, topical teachings within each area. At the end of each topic is what I refer to as My Spiritual Tool Box, a strategic guide for spiritual construction. You'll also see the Today's Project and the My Blueprint categories, which probably need no explanation. But, the Keeping It Plumb topic is something you may not be familiar with. A "plumb bob" is a tool dating all the way back to ancient Egypt for measuring vertical alignment. It's nothing more than a hanging string with a pointed weight at the end. I remember my uncle using it when aligning the walls of the new house. In our Christian walk, we need discernment, and this tool presents some thoughts on adjusting our lives in such a way as to keep things straight and in line with God's Word. I hope this spiritual tool box will be of great help to you as you build your own spiritual home in accordance with the fundamentals of God's Will.
Eddie's Elementary Adventures is about a year in the life of a young boy named Eddie Castleton. Eddie seems to get himself into a lot of weird and unexpected situations in life. His way of handling all that is often funny, sometimes clever, but always endearing. He's just an adventurous little kid that takes on life with the Lord at his side. You'll enjoy his friendships with Toad and Danny and the crazy antics they get into. Along the way, he faces a bully at school, confronts death and loss, and solves a neighborhood mystery. You'll laugh as he learns how to deal with the girls in his life and tries to build up his "social standing." All of us will appreciate the challenges he faces and the spiritual lessons he learns each day. Much of it is based upon my early life experiences, though greatly embellished for your reading enjoyment. I hope you have as much fun listening to this precocious little guy's adventures as I did in writing them.
