We have thousands of titles available, and we invite you to search for us by name, contact us via our website, or download our most recent catalogues. The subject of Religious Origins is a fascinating one, as the great multitude of books upon it, published in late years, tends to show. Indeed the great difficulty to-day in dealing with the subject, lies in the very mass of the material to hand-and that not only on account of the labor involved in sorting the material, but because the abundance itself of facts opens up temptation to a student in this department of Anthropology (as happens also in other branches of general Science) to rush in too hastily with what seems a plausible theory. The more facts, statistics, and so forth, there are available in any investigation, the easier it is to pick out a considerable number which will fit a given theory. The other facts being neglected or ignored, the views put forward enjoy for a time a great vogue. Then inevitably, and at a later time, new or neglected facts alter the outlook, and a new perspective is established. There is also in these matters of Science (though many scientific men would doubtless deny this) a great deal of "Fashion". Such has been notoriously the case in Political Economy, Medicine, Geology, and even in such definite studies as Physics and Chemistry. In a comparatively recent science, like that with which we are now concerned, one would naturally expect variations. A hundred and fifty years ago, and since the time of Rousseau, the "Noble Savage" was extremely popular; and he lingers still in the story books of our children. Then the reaction from this extreme view set in, and of late years it has been the popular cue (largely, it must be said, among "armchair" travelers and explorers) to represent the religious rites and customs of primitive folk as a senseless mass of superstitions, and the early man as quite devoid of decent feeling and intelligence.

""Woman, The Serf"" is a book written by Edward Carpenter that explores the oppression and subjugation of women throughout history. The author argues that women have been treated as second-class citizens, denied basic rights and freedoms, and forced to live under the control of men. Carpenter examines the ways in which patriarchal societies have perpetuated this oppression, and offers a vision for a more equal and just society. He advocates for women's suffrage, education, and economic independence, and calls upon men to recognize and challenge their own privilege and power. Through a combination of historical analysis, social commentary, and personal reflection, ""Woman, The Serf"" offers a powerful critique of gender inequality and a passionate call for change.THIS 24 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Love's Coming-of-Age: A Series of Papers on the Relations of the Sexes, by Edward Carpenter. ""Marriage: In Free Society"" is a book written by Edward Carpenter and originally published in 1894. The book explores the concept of marriage in a free society, where individuals are not constrained by societal norms and expectations. Carpenter argues that traditional marriage is a product of a patriarchal society and that it restricts individuals from fully expressing themselves and their desires. He advocates for a more open and flexible approach to marriage, where individuals are free to choose their partners and the terms of their union. Carpenter also explores the role of love and sexuality in marriage, arguing that they should be the foundation of any healthy relationship. The book is considered a seminal work in the history of the feminist and LGBTQ+ movements, as it challenged traditional gender roles and advocated for greater freedom and autonomy in personal relationships. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The Inner or Spiritual Body by Edward Carpenter is a book that explores the concept of the inner or spiritual body, which is believed to exist beyond the physical body. Carpenter argues that this spiritual body is the true self, and that it is capable of experiencing a higher level of consciousness and connection with the divine. The book examines the history of the concept of the spiritual body, and explores how it has been understood and experienced by various religious and spiritual traditions throughout history. Carpenter also provides practical guidance for individuals who seek to connect with their own spiritual body, including meditation techniques and other spiritual practices. The Inner or Spiritual Body is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of a topic that is of great interest to many people who seek a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world.THIS 24 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Drama of Love and Death: A Study of Human Evolution and Transfiguration, by Edward Carpenter. The following Studies and Notes, made during the earlier period of the present war and now collected together for publication, do not-as will be evident to the reader-pretend to any sort of completeness in their embrace of the subject, or finality in its presentation. Rather they are scattered thoughts suggested by the large and tangled drama which we are witnessing; and I am sufficiently conscious that their expression involves contradictions as well as repetitions.
