Der Neapolitaner Giambattista Basile (1575/1632) war ein italienischer Schriftsteller und Höfling verschiedener Fürsten. Er verfasste Gedichte sowie Theaterstücke und gilt durch sein Hauptwerk Il Pentamerone als Europas erster großer Märchenerzähler.
