Fortuné du Boisgobey (1821-1891) est un auteur français. Issu d’une famille noble, il poursuit des études de droit, et entre dans l'administration des Finances. Il ne se fait remarquer pour ses écrits qu’en 1843, avec ses « Lettres de Sicile », récit de ses voyages en Europe. Mais il ne se consacre véritablement à littérature qu’en 1868, avec « Deux Comédiens » publié dans Le Petit Journal. À compter de cette date, il devient un écrivain politique très populaire, notamment grâce à ses romans-feuilletons dignes des plus grands. Ses succès les plus importants sont « Une affaire mystérieuse » et « Forçat colonel » en 1869.
