Los Suenos, compuestos entre 1606 y 1623, circularon abundantemente manuscritos pero no se imprimieron hasta 1627. Se trata de cinco narraciones cortas de inspiracion lucianesca donde se pasa revista a diversas costumbres, oficios y personajes populares de su epoca. Son, por este orden, El Sueno del Juicio Final (llamado a partir de la publicacion de Juguetes de la ninez, la version expurgada de 1631 El sueno de las calaveras), El alguacil endemoniado (redenominado El alguacil alguacilado), El Sueno del Infierno (esto es, Las zahurdas de Pluton en su version expurgada), El mundo por dentro (que mantuvo su nombre siempre) y El Sueno de la Muerte (conocido como La visita de los chistes)."

Amigo de las agudezas del ingenio, que le valieron ser encarcelado, Quevedo escribió estas Gracias y desgracias del ojo del culo, culmen de su gusto por lo impúdico y obsceno. El maestro del conceptismo, da una vuelta de tuerca en sus obras burlescas al tomar la realidad y sumergirla, no ya en el sarcasmo más corrosivo, sino en la degradación más absoluta. Mientras otros tienden hacia el ideal, Quevedo busca lo más crudo de la realidad humana para pisotearlo y enfangarlo. Desengañado y cruel, gusta de reírse y ensalzar aquello de lo que los demás prefieren apartar la vista. Quevedo, por el contrario, lo señala con el dedo, lo toma entre sus manos y lo pone ante los ofendidos ojos de los que pasan por bienpensantes.

La Execración contra los judíos es un texto de un racismo radical. Fue escrito por Francisco de Quevedo mientras ejercía como secretario de Felipe IV, según parece, inspirado por las sospechas de que ciertos miembros de la comunidad judía europea estaban financiando a fuerzas adversas al monarca español.Quevedo conocía al detalle de todo lo que sucedía en la corte, a través de informantes. Aprovechó un momento de crispación y redactó este texto en forma de memorial, dirigido al rey Felipe IV. En él solicita con fervor la expulsión definitiva y radical de todos los judíos de España y reclama la ruptura de los asientos firmados con ellos.En la Execración Quevedo acusa a los judíos portugueses, instalados en España desde fines del siglo XVI. Afirma que profanan los valores de la cristiandad. Los acusa de utilizar la posición de algunos de ellos como banqueros de la Corona para atentar contra la economía y la sociedad española. Dice también que actúan en alianza con los enemigos del rey.Aquí los judíos portugueses son vistos como el emblema mismo de una serie de valores a los que Quevedo se opone. El autor repudia y acusa a los judías de supuesto maquiavelismo político, materialismo, disgregación de la tradición y de los estamentos sociales.Esta Execración es un testimonio interesante de las fuerzas en conflicto durante la España del siglo XVII, inmersa en la Guerra de los Treinta Años.

Pablos era hijo de una familia pobre y con problemas. Su padre, llamado Clemente Pablo era barbero, pero en el pueblo todos sabían cual era su verdadero oficio, pues robaba a sus clientes mientras les afeitaba o les cortaba el pelo. Por este mismo motivo ya había estado en la cárcel varias veces. De su madre Aldonza se decía que era bruja y que hacía pactos con el diablo. Además se rumoreaba por el pueblo que Pablos era hijo de un criado. Visto lo que había en su casa, Pablos decide entrar en un colegio, donde conoce a Diego, el que será su inseparable amigo.

El libro consta de cinco piezas cortas conceptistas, producto de los desengaños que padeció en esos años, en las que viene a decir que no hay nobleza ni verdad en el mundo sino que todo es horror y fealdad. Estas obras circularon manuscritas hasta que un editor las reunió en 1626, aunque Quevedo las publicó en 1631 con el título de Juguetes de la niñez y travesuras del ingenio con un prólogo en el que arremetía contra los editores piratas y declaraba la intención de estos escritos en los que pretendía denunciar los "abusos, vicios y engaños de todos los oficios y estados del mundo".

La vida del buscón llamado don Pablos es la historia de un muchacho segoviano, hijo de un barbero-"tundidor de mejillas y sastre de barbas"-y de Aldonza de San Pedro, "que no era cristiana vieja", ambos de muy dudosa moralidad: mitad ladrones, mitad brujos. Por encima de las peripecias de Pablos, la obra es un alarde de ingenio, de hiperbólica muestra del Quevedo más inhumano, que en nada se compadece de sus criaturas. Su verismo es solo literario, y la realidad referida nos llega sometida a una genial deformación que marca una cumbre de nuestra literatura.

Historia de la vida del Buscón llamado don Pablos, ejemplo de vagamundos y espejo de tacaños, es una novela picaresca en castellano, escrita por Francisco de Quevedo. El libro se publicó por primera vez en 1626, aunque circuló antes en copias manuscritas algunas de las cuales se conservan hoy en día. Quevedo nunca reconoció haber escrito El Buscón, probablemente para esquivar problemas con la Inquisición, y su silencio sobre esta obra, pese a estar la autoría fuera de toda duda, ha incrementado los problemas en la datación de su composición. La sátira se exagera en esta obra hasta el punto de ser una caricatura sangrienta.
