Cardiovascular disease is currently the leading cause of death of pregnant and postpartum women in the United States. Pregnancy can exacerbate known cardiovascular disorders and unmask previously unrecognized problems. The field of cardio-obstetrics is emerging and a clear area of need for improved quality of care. This book is the first authoritative and comprehensive volume dedicated to contemporary and practical topics in Cardio Obstetrics. It provides an up-to-date and highly illustrated synopsis of the pathophysiological, biomolecular, genetic, imaging features, translational and clinical applications of cardiometabolic disease, adverse pregnancy outcomes, cardiomyopathy, ischemic heart disease, maternal shock and structural heart disease in pregnancy and their role in maternal and fetal outcomes. It relays to the reader a contemporary view of the emerging interplay between the pregnancy and cardiovascular disease and risk factors and focuses on the pathophysiology, obstetrical and cardiac management of complex disorders in pregnancy. In addition, this volume discusses the clinical implications and therapeutic targets of a wide range of diseases in pregnancy from the preventive cardiology to critical care and advanced heart failure.Contemporary Topics in Cardio-Obstetrics is an essential resource for physicians, residents, fellows, and medical students in cardiology, endocrinology, primary care, and health promotion and disease prevention.
This book is based on naphthoquinones and their biological evaluation for different targets (DNA topoisomerase-I, COX-2, Neuraminidase). Enzyme and cyto-toxicity assay was performed with molecular docking studies. 3, 3¿-(arylmethylene) bis (2-hydroxynaphthalene-1, 4 dione) derivatives were synthesized from lawsone by two methods 1] in presence of LiCl 2] amino acid ester. DNA topoisomerase-I enzyme inhibition studies were conducted with simultaneous and preincubation conditions. Total inhibition compared to Camptothecin as positive control on both the systems of enzyme inhibition systems as well as on Leishmania donovani promastigotes. Diospyrin was isolated in a fairly large quantity from the stem bark of Diospyros montana Roxb.(family: Ebenaceae). Extraction of diospyrin from dried stem bark of Diospyros montana by petroleum ether (60-80) and chloroform in soxhlet apparatus for 2 days. The book describes about the synthetic as well as natural naphthoquinones and their biological evaluation with the help of molecular docking.
The research study is an endeavour to look at the lives of women with breast cancer. The construct of stress and well-being were explored from multiple perspectives. The study delineates the stressors as perceived by women, and its implications on their sense of well-being. Research has indicated an inextricable chemical link between our emotions, stress in our lives, and the regulatory mechanisms of endocrine and immune systems. This research study emphasizes the importance of expressing our emotions and releasing tensions. Inappropriate storing of stressful emotions results in internal weakening of the immune system, which has a significant potential for the onset of the disease. The science of Psychoneuroimmunology presents enough evidence about the communication link that exists between the mind and the body. The bio-medical approach has certainly made amazing advances, but its limitation lies in not capitalizing on an individual's emotional well-being from a humanistic approach.A paradigmatic shift is required in the way by which the medical fraternity deals with cure; especially for an illness like cancer, in which the treatment is as dreaded as the disease.
