Über die nun zutage tretende Erregung Wandas wunderte sich der Künstler nicht. Die Erscheinung war ja ganz allgemein und hatte schließlich auch ihn befallen. Und wenn sie mit dem Artistenblut seines Weibes zusammenhing, so war sie auch darum nicht zu verurteilen. Ihn beherrschte noch immer eine argusäugige Eifersucht, aber schließlich war er an ihrer Seite, und ihm auf irgendeine Weise sein angetrautes Weib zu entwinden würde eine unausführbare Unternehmung geblieben sein.
