Why did the ancient Mayans walk away from their magnificant cities, and where did they go? This mystery has intrigued Americans and Europeans ever since abandoned cities and pyramids were found in the jungles of Central America, and researchers digging around the ruins have offered several theories, all of which are plagued by flaws. An amateur folklorist visited the tiny country of Belize, near the center of this ancient empire. There, a Mayan villager shared with him an old oral tradition that obviously originated with a traumatic event of the distant past. Knowing that such tradition is frequently based on truth, this folklorist visited Belize several more times, seeking to understand that tradition. Using what he learned, he wrote 'Mayan Mystery Unveiled, ' a novel telling why these ancient people abruptly walked away from their cities and from the religion that had led them to their marvelous achievements. Join the author and his companions in this exciting journey as they explore pyramids and palaces that had been hidden by the jungle for a thousand years, searching for the answer.

American wildfowl art owes its foundation to Lem Ward. This wood carver and painter (1896-1984) overcame severe illness to produce some of the best-loved wildfowl art extant today. Lem and his brother Steve grew up along the marshes of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and subsisted as barbers and foragers. They created carved and painted ducks to please their independent selves-as works of art, while carvers around them were making decoys just good enough for hunting. Here Lem's life story is told by his daughter Ida who was beside Lem for almost the entire span of his artistic career.
