Oprindeligt hed serien ”Kaliffen Harun al Raptuschs eventyr” og udkom i første nummer af blader Record. Men hurtigt fik den afskyelige visir overtaget og blev titelhelt. Duoen signerede 17 album. I maj 1968 sluttede Iznogood sig i det legendariske blad Pilote til René Goscinnys andre figurer, Asterix og Lucky Luke. Desuden blev Iznogood fra oktober 1974 klummeskriver og kommenterede aktuelle begivenheder i Journal de Dimanche. Efter René Goscinnys død i november 1977 tog Jean Tabary sig alene af Iznogoods eventyr. I 2011 sluttede tegneren sig til sin forfatterven i humoristernes paradis. Men Iznogoods popularitet overlevede hans skabere og oplevede, animeret af andre, nye eventyr.Nicolas Tabary, søn af Jean Tabary, overtog herefter serien. Denne bog er tegnet af sønnen og udsendt som album 28, 29 og 30 i den franske albumserie.
