Religion exists to expound knowledge about the continuance of life after death, yet despite thousands years and as many religions, our knowledge on the subject is both lacking and contradictory in the extreme; every possible debauchery being justified to destroy opposing beliefs all in the name of God. Scientists claim the world has experienced many near extinction events throughout its existence but they didn't know one was so near. In the third year of the post-minimum era, humanity, like many times before, licks it wounds and tries to rebuild society from the ashes and with a scant 10% survival rate. Chaos reins everywhere except in England where it's rumored that a semblance of law and order exist and most importantly, food. The seeming, invincible Toprak Esir Corporation knew of the coming catastrophe of which they were more than prepared for; they saw it as the ultimate opportunity to claim the throne of a desperate world. The King and his privy council's dream to redesign society based upon principles of peace rather than war, is interrupted by an invasion of hellhounds in the north and the return of the St. Vitus Dance plague in the south. Finding it impossible to govern a country without modern communications, the King reestablishes the Anglo-Saxon heptarchy, placing those with the purest Saxon blood on the thrones of England as it once did before. No sooner was Veronica placed on the throne of Wales, when winds of civil war demand she be given the English Crown. As makeshift mobs form armies, draw lines and choose sides, the King painfully learns the necessity of ruling with an iron fist like so many of his terrible ancestors. Despite his efforts, history is hell-bent on repeating itself. In addition to fighting a medieval war, he struggles between falling in love with Lady Veronica and killing her. As heroes go missing, secret alliances are forged and spiked heads adorn the Tower of London once more.

Periods of no solar flares called minimums, have been known to exist for centuries; the last (partial) minimum occurred in the 1640's which caused a mini ice-age. However, besides cooler temperatures, science is mostly unaware of any other effects. In the future, the sun once again turns its back on the solar system, plunging it into the deepest minimum ever known, but not everyone is surprised by it. At least one corporation appears to have a ten-year head start, an advantage they brutally exploit. As the world free-falls into another medieval period, humanity painfully re-learns that every superstition and tale of fantasy is the pinnacle of truth and knowledge. The lack of solar flares causes the pineal gland to reduce the amount of melatonin it creates (the sleep hormone), which causes mankind to be overall more awake and more able to see the real world around them with all it's horrors, at last making sense of superstition, folklore and all the unbelievable stories of our ancestors. Besides sharing the world with dwarfs, previously unknown natural laws endow mankind with the physical abilities to survive in such a brutal world. Those with pure Saxon blood flowing through their veins are particularly endowed, thus explaining why their ancestral race was never conquered. As the US Senate debates yet another war in Europe, the military domination of the West is quickly becoming meaningless as it appears the next world war will be fought with brute strength, swords and magic.

As the fabric of civilized society begins to tear away and be devoured by the Solar Minimum, those who were prepared for the catastrophe quickly gather up the crumbs nature left in the wake of the goal depopulation event. An obscure U.S. Senate committee struggles to keep stride with the all-powerful Toprak Esir Corporation, who has been preparing for the Minimum for decades, while coming to terms with their new medieval world in all its gory. An unlikely alliance forms between a handful of misfit, U.S. Senate refugees and the British Crown who alone must organize a resistance against impossible odds. As the modern world crumbles away, what was once myth, fantasy, and folklore make up the nightmare of everyday life in the modern-medieval world, complete with fearless warriors, powerful scorers and devastatingly beautiful maidens. As survivors acclimate to a devolving planet, the laws of science are no longer relevant to the experience of everyday life. Not only do many animals and some humans grow several times their previously accepted size (especially pure- blood Saxons), humans once again share their world with dwarfs, fenrir, hellhounds, fairies, mermaids and the rest of the dictionary of fantasy beings. Only now does humanity understand the wild tails of their ancestors and learn that the gamut of fantasy beings have always been among them, they just could not be seen --until now. Seeing the world with new eyes and greater understanding, mankind realizes that medieval wisdom just might be the pinnacle of mankind's achievements.
