The lungs are essential organs in the human body which facilitate the process of gas exchange. Lung immunity plays a critical role in the prevention of various respiratory diseases characterized by abnormal inflammation. Some of the common lung diseases are asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and fibrosis. Lung inflammation is generally caused by pathogens or by exposure to pollutants, toxins, allergens and irritants. Some common symptoms of lung inflammation are fatigue, extra mucus, wheezing, problem in breathing, gasping for air, etc. Diagnosis of lung inflammation is conducted through several tests, such as CT scan, ventilation or perfusion scan, lung function test, and blood tests. Its treatment involves anti-inflammatory medications, emergency breathing support, and surgery in severe cases. This book includes some of the vital pieces of work being conducted across the world, on various topics related to lung immunity and inflammation. It will also provide interesting topics for research which readers can take up. This book includes contributions of experts and scientists which will provide innovative insights into this field of study.

One of The Sunday Times' (U.K.) Books of the Year"Garnett's life will not need to be written again." -Andrew Morton, Times Literary SupplementA penetrating biography of the most important English-language editor of the early twentieth centuryDuring the course of a career spanning half a century, Edward Garnett-editor, critic, and reader for hire-would become one of the most influential men in twentieth-century English literature. Known for his incisive criticism and unwavering conviction in matters of taste, Garnett was responsible for identifying and nurturing the talents of a generation of the greatest writers in the English language, from Joseph Conrad to John Galsworthy, Henry Green to Edward Thomas, T. E. Lawrence to D. H. Lawrence. In An Uncommon Reader, Helen Smith brings to life Garnett's intimate and at times stormy relationships with those writers. ("I have always suffered a little from a sense of injustice at your hands," Galsworthy complained in a letter.) All turned to Garnett for advice and guidance at critical moments in their careers, and their letters and diaries-in which Garnett often features as a feared but deeply admired protagonist-tell us not only about their creative processes, but also about their hopes and fears.Beyond his connections to some of the greatest minds in literary history, we also come to know Edward as the husband of Constance Garnett-the prolific translator responsible for introducingTolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Chekhov to an English language readership-and as the father of David "Bunny" Garnett, who would make a name for himself as a writer and publisher."Mr. Edward Garnett occupies a unique position in the literary history of our age," E. M. Forster wrote. "He has done more than any living writer to discover and encourage the genius of other writers, and he has done it without any desire for personal prestige." An absorbing and masterfully researched portrait of a man who was a defining influence on the modern literary landscape, An Uncommon Reader asks us to consider the multifaceted meaning of literary genius.

This book presents the results of archaeological research in the extreme south of Madagascar between 1991 and 2003, and provides a synthesis of the region's archaeology. Madagascar is an island with many unique species of fauna and flora; its extreme south is a semi-arid region with remarkable vegetational adaptations. Before the arrival of humans, there were many species of megafauna of which the most extraordinary were the flightless elephant birds, the largest avian species in the world. Today the inhabitants of the south have adapted to this aridity with a vibrant culture and strong traditions. The dating of the first colonisation of Madagascar is not certain, but certain sites in the southwest have provided radiocarbon dates towards the end of the first millennium BC. From the tenth to thirteenth century, there was a well-developed civilisation in the south. During the fourteenth century, population numbers fell in the far south and the majority of settlements from this period are found in locations chosen for their defensive aspects. The way of life that evolved in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries is similar to that of recent times and today. Europeans arrived at the beginning of the sixteenth century and, by the mid-seventeenth century, the French had established a colony at Fort-Dauphin on the southeast coast. The people of the south are well known today for their large and elaborate stone tombs and standing stones. However, this is not a particularly ancient tradition. Before the appearance of these monumental funerary constructions, burials were marked by arrangements of small stone uprights or by wooden palisades. The large stone tombs that are such a dominant feature of today's landscape have their origins in standing-stone monuments around the end of the eighteenth century.Mike Parker Pearson with Karen Godden, Ramilisonina, Retsihisatse, Jean-Luc Schwenninger, Georges Heurtebize, Chantal Radimilahy and Helen Smith. With contributions by Irene de Luis, David Barker, Seth Priestman, Lucien Rakotozafy, Bako Rasoarifetra, Alan Vince, Zoë Crossland and Brian Boyd.
