Herman Friedrich Grimm (1828 bis 1901) war ein deutscher Kunsthistoriker und Publizist. Er gehörte zu den bekanntesten Schriftstellern des 19. Jahrhunderts.In seinem hier vorliegenden Werk hat er zehn Essays über Kunst und Literatur zusammengetragen. Unter anderem sind dies "Ralph Waldo Emerson", "Die Akademie der Künste und das Verhältniß der Künstler zum Staate", "Alexander von Humboldt", "Dante und die letzten Kämpfe in Italien", "Raphael's Disputa und Schule von Athen, seine Sonette und seine Geliebte" und "Goethe in Italien".Dieses Buch ist ein unveränderter Nachdruck der längst vergriffenen Originalausgabe von 1865.
