I am aware that this is a very broad subject, with many definitions and preconceptions; and that in several cases the erotic aspect in the works may present itself more implicit than explicit. However, and despite the possible limitations and caveats that an endeavour of this nature presents, I am confident that you will enjoy the tour.The selection in this guidebook includes 30 works that are part of the permanent collection of the museum; and the only inclusion criterion was that the painting or sculpture presented erotic associations.You may be surprised at how little our general attitudes towards sex have changed in the last 2000 years. Likewise, you may be surprised at how little erotica has changed too; there really is nothing new under the sun, and it's all been done before.

Es también una selección de algunas de mis obras favoritas y que a su vez creo que son representativas de la colección en su conjunto. Se incluyen la mayoría de las obras maestras, sin embargo, también encontrarás varias obras menos conocidas y que no suelen incluirse en las guías del Prado. Quisiera añadir que la tarea de seleccionar únicamente 20 obras de 14 artistas no ha sido fácil, al haber más de 7.000 obras en la colección del museo. Esta guía no pretende ser una guía exhaustiva del Prado sino más bien una herramienta con que acompañar tu visita al museo, la cual normalmente se limita a un par de horas. De esta manera el objetivo de esta guía es que salgas del museo pensando que has aprovechado un poco mejor tu tiempo dentro, y que has disfrutado un poco más de tu visita a la mejor pinacoteca del mundo.

The Thyssen, as it is normally referred to, is Madrid's third most important art museum and just across the street from the Prado Museum. It is also most likely the best and most complete private collection of art in the world. Undoubtedly there are other great private art collections in the world; however, this is the only one that builds a chronological narrative with outstanding examples from each period and very few gaps. Indeed, visiting the museum is like strolling through the last 600 years of art history. No other private collection presents anything similar.A Survival Guide to the Thyssen is a guidebook for the untrained, for those that believe they don't understand art, and for those that have ended up having to (or wanting to) spend some time in the Thyssen. In summary, this guide doesn't aim to instruct in art, but hopefully spark enough interest so as to make your visit more enjoyable.And remember that you are visiting the greatest private art collection in the world!

In December 1494, the German traveller Hieronymus Münzer began his pilgrimage toSantiago de Compostela on the Portuguese Camino. One hundred years later, theItalian priest Giovanni Battista Confalonieri followed his footsteps, arriving in Santiago on May 4th. In 1670, another Italian - the priest Domenico Laffi - completed his pilgrimage on the 30th of June, after walking all the way from Bologna Italy on the French Camino.These are their accounts---Three Journeys to Santiago de Compostela includes the translations with commentaries of the journeys of these three pilgrims on the Portuguese Camino and the French Camino. These commentaries have not only been thoroughly researched, with the aim of offering more insight and understanding to the text, but are also accompanied with personal insights. As I work and regularly walk both the Portuguese and French Caminos every year, I am able to enrich these commentaries with current observations of the places they visited.Three Journeys to Santiago de Compostela only includes the sections that describe their journeys on the French or Portuguese Caminos. This means that, in the case of Müller, only the accounts of his journey through the Iberian Peninsula that coincide with the historic Portuguese and French Caminos have been included.

A much-needed reference and guidebook for the Camino de Madrid. --- BASIC FACTS: 1. The Camino de Madrid starts at the Church of Santiago y San Juan Bautista in Madrid and ends in Sahagún. 2. It is officially 320 kilometres long, depending on the detours you make and number of times you get lost (or 676 kilometres if you continue to Santiago de Compostela). 3. It is usually walked in 13 stages, the ones proposed in this handbook. 4. It passes through four provinces (Madrid, Segovia, Valladolid and León); one that you will cross completely, south to north (Valladolid). 5. It passes over the highest point on any of the Caminos in Spain: the Fuenfría Mountain Pass at 1,796 metres. 6. It passes by five castles that are not in ruins (Manzanares el Real, Segovia, Coca, Simancas and Grajal de Campos). I like castles. 7. It passes by some of the finest examples of Mudéjar (Muslim artists and architects working for Christians in the Middle-Ages) architecture in Spain. 8. There are fully equipped pilgrim albergues that are open throughout the year. 9. It is well marked, with enough Camino signage to get you safely to Sahagún. 10. An estimated 2,000 pilgrims walked the Camino de Madrid in 2019. --- USING THIS HANDBOOK: This handbook is divided into 13 chapters, each chapter number corresponding to the suggested stage. There is also an introductory chapter describing Madrid and a final chapter describing Sahagún. The Numbered-Stage Chapters are organised as follows: 1) A map of the stage presenting the route and towns. Distances between towns are shown. 2) A topographic profile describing the elevation gains and losses on the stage. 3) A general description of the stage, the trail, the towns and highlights.4 ) A section describing route alternatives and options. 5) A section describing tricky and/or problematic sections. 6) A section describing the different places you will walk through such as their pilgrim services, monuments and other curiosities. 7) A final section providing information about the available pilgrim albergues for that stage.8)Each stage also includes a descriptive photo of the stage and, when necessary, a schematic town map. An ABC Camino Colouring Book for pilgrims who have walked to Santiago de Compostela, or anyone who dreams of walking there one day.All 26 images are unique hand-drawn sketches that are associated directly with the Camino and at the end of the book there is a brief description of why I have chosen each word and its illustration. Several of the illustrations are depictions of my own Camino experiences, whilst others illustrate general or historical conceptions associated with the Camino.

These are the paintings that I would like to share with you.The selection includes most of the museum's masterpieces and better-known paintings. However, you will also find several paintings, which don't usually make the cut for Prado guidebooks. I would like to add that this was not an easy task, selecting the 20 paintings and 14 artists that I have included in this guide, considering that there are over 7.000 paintings in the Prado's collection.This is not a comprehensive guide for the Prado but a guide meant to enhance your visit, which is usually limited to a couple of hours, and the aim of this book is that you leave the museum feeling you have not wasted your time and that perhaps you even had a good time.

In this Atlas you will discover 37 places on the Camino de Santiago in Spain, each presented with a map, illustration and a short descriptive text. Some of the places exist and all of them could or should have existed; as all the stories in this Atlas stem from facts, and these facts have been interpreted with the aim of evoking rather than informing.The first published Atlas was given the title of Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. Translated into English, the title reads: The Theatre of the World. I cannot be more in agreement with this view of the world; and the Camino de Santiago offers an exceptional setting for the actors and actresses that had the opportunity, if only briefly, to play a part in this production.
