Barbara de Figueiredo had made quite a life for herself helping the people of the island. She was a religious woman, a Curandeira and Folk Witch. Her magical work used the healing powers of the Saints, but she was also known to call on the Devil and his aides to destroy those who crossed her. Her story was written down in the files of the inquisition from the mouths of witnesses. Many of the magical acts are taken directly from the inquisition notes, with additions from the authors own understanding of magic, and her relationship with the Azores islands.
