The single biggest problem facing society is the fact that in almost every country in the world the individual citizen has no control of their own government. With the rare exception of Switzerland, not even so-called "democracies" provide this essential system of government, but provide instead a deeply cynical pretence of democracy. The rules by which governments are supposed to operate are contained in their constitutions. The fact that Britain calls itself a democracy but has an unelected head of state, a parliament where more than half the members are unelected, and has no written constitution at all is indicative of the problem. The People's Constitution aims to put this right. It is an off-the-shelf model constitution that any group of progressive citizens can use in order to create real democracies for their own countries.
