Der Klassiker unter den Dickens-Biographien:Forsters Biographie in drei Bänden erschien kurz nach Charles Dickens¿ Tod im Jahre 1870 und wurde schnell zu einem Standardwerk. Es lebt von der engen und langjährigen Freundschaft des Kritikers und Herausgebers John Forster mit dem berühmten Schriftsteller. Ohne literaturwissenschaftliche Pedanterie sieht er das Leben und den Charakter des Verfassers zeitloser Werke wie ¿Oliver Twist¿ oder ¿A Christmas Carol¿. Dabei wechseln sich packende Berichte aus erster Hand mit umfangreichen Auszügen aus dem Briefwechsel der beiden Freunde ab. Und da auch in fast all seinen Briefen seine besondere Meisterschaft des Erzählens zum Tragen kommt, wird jeder, der gerne Dickens liest, auch an dieser Biographie Gefallen finden.
