Sam lives a happy life with a family that loves her. Her mother and father, Curie, and Joe, own a lovely farm that houses Sam's brothers, Timothy and Jake, and her best friend, a female pet chicken called Matthew. Life is moving along just as it normally does, going to school, hanging out with friends, and coming home, until Jake suddenly and shockingly goes missing. The family is naturally rattled, but none of them have any idea just how serious Jake's disappearance will prove until Sam and her friends make a discovery in the woods. What are these strange lights appearing in Kansas? What are the Primes? And how on Earth does being a vegan play into any of it?In Blood of the Last True Heart, John Prince tells a dark tale that encourages a will for compassion towards the nature we find around us.

There are statements that have not, and perhaps cannot, be proved. Data can be displayed, and patterns can be anticipated, but a proof requires a logical process. Statistics can be used to establish a link between events, but often the reliability factor is established at only 95%. Accounting firms will retest a hypothesis using a larger sample if the initial hypothesis test fails. Even then two types of errors exist for each hypothesis: rejecting it by mistake, and incorrectly accepting it. It is similar to `reasonable doubt', although some will believe the statistical claims (at least until another study is released). Any statement can be proved false by one counter example. A correct example though, only illustrates there may be a possible proof. In this book, you will explore common methods of mathematical proof using various topics. Consider it as a supplement to a text.
This book explores and examines mathematics and its role in elementary education. Strategies are given for teaching mathematical principles including problem solving and its integration with other subject areas. Math is not 'just one problem after another', but most questions can be answered using several different methods. Some methods of thinking are more inventive and elegant than others, but all accurate methods will agree on both a reasonable initial estimate and the final answer.
The current published story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' has been modified several times since the original tale was told in the early 1800's. This paper will modify the story again, but using matrices. All solutions of linear systems have either a common solution, or not. In many courses, no further work is completed if no common solution exists. Based on the solution(s) to a linear system, there are three system models to consider. The 'just-right' one solution, the 'too hot' many solutions, and the 'too cold' optimal solution not likely satisfying any equation. This paper will present the solving of a linear system using the adjoint matrix. If no common solution exists, the corresponding optimal solution will be determined. For a linear system with three or less equations, the solution can certainly be completed using 'pencil-and-paper' methods. For a larger number of equations, software methods will be used.
The following is an 'anecdotal' snapshot of my time at sea through the eyes of a 'first-tripper' as an Asst. Electrical Engineer, Cableship Officer, under the auspices of British Telecomm (Marine). This 'aide-memoir/novellette', came about by members of my family continually telling/cajoling me to write down the events and incidents which I was involved in or happened to me.This book is a technical but also an amusing tale of the author's job on one of the Cableships keeping telecommunication channels open all around the world. Answering questions like "So, how do you find a broken cable at the bottom of the Atlantic"? etc."The Engine Room" is an interesting and enlightening story of life on a working vessel as well as recording lighter adventures ashore. The reader should note that what transpired was in the days before certain legislation became as rigorous as it is in today's working environment. The author wishes to thank his wife, primarily for putting up with my periods of absenteeism whilst raising our family very much single-handedly all those years ago......With hindsight, which is the one thing everyone has a PhD in. This book should really never have come about. Some people might regard me as being selfish to leave my wife and baby at a time when I was most needed; with the need to provide, then, now and the future beckoning, I just couldn't ignore that aspect. The nature of the 'job' could be seen as 'episodic', what follows is the good, the bad, does that mean I'm the ugly?-John Prince
Students will naturally ask, "When will I use this stuff?" With some mathematical concepts, the answer will be a definite "Never!" However, it is very likely you will require trigonometry in some form. You may only need some of the trigonometry topics, but applications similar to the ones contained in this book will probably be required. One of my students worked with a construction firm. He was required to determine whether or not the dump trucks would be in any danger of hitting the overhead hydro wires, preferably with an accurate solution. This book is designed to teach the skills required to be successful solving problems involving triangles. It is suitable for an independent learner, a student in a class, parent, tutor, or for a teacher.
