Private detective, Charlie Collier, is back to his old tricks in his 4th adventure, "The Buried Treasure Caper." In this novel, the 12-year-old snoop for hire stumbles upon a rare coin with a mysterious past. Charlie, Henry, and Scarlett soon find themselves attempting to unravel a 50-year-old murder case that the local police were never able to solve. And like his other adventures, Charlie gets in way over his head and becomes the next victim of a diabolical coin collector who will do anything to protect his secret.
Charlie Collier here. You won't want to miss my third caper. In this adventure, the local newspaper is filled with reports of a pair of unsolved crimes in the Oak Grove area-the theft of a rare painting from the local art gallery, and the discovery of hundreds of dollars in counterfeit bills at a downtown convenience store. Meanwhile at school, the drama teacher, Mr. Miles, a long-time thespian well past retirement age, stops by Mrs. Jansen's class to recruit cast members for the new sixth grade play, one which he has written. Mr. Miles, well aware of my reputation, asks me if I would consider playing the role of the private detective in his play. At first, I politely decline. I've never thought of himself as an actor. But when Scarlett is cast as the young heroine, I reconsider. The next day I pay a visit to Eugene to tell him about my new stage role. During the conversation, he asks me if I've heard the good news-it's the 75th anniversary of the Sam Solomon Mystery Theater-a series of old-time radio programs that ran in the 1930's and '40's. Eugene informs me that a local radio station, in celebration of the anniversary, is currently running the programs. How could a crime spree, the school play, and the Sam Solomon radio series possibly be connected? There's one way to find out.
High school junior Paulie Passero considers himself a social misfit. He is sixteen years old and has never had the courage to ask a girl out on a date. He thinks he's a poor excuse for the average male...until he experiences something far worse. Paulie witnesses an unspeakable act by a member of the football team under the bleachers one afternoo...
Paulie Passero, underachiever, high school junior, wants the courage to talk to a girl. A road trip from Chicago to rural Pennsylvania doesn't interest him until his father emphasizes the need for a second driver. Why must they go? Paulie's dying grandmother disowned her son twenty years ago, and fences must be mended. Unprepared for Smalltown USA, Paulie is bored at first but notices a girl in the back of a passing pickup and is immediately enamored. Guinevere Thompson lives just down the road from Paulie's grandparents. She wants nothing to do with him. It's not that she doesn't like him; she likes him too much to see him beaten up by her three nasty brothers...or worse, her father. Paulie yearns to help this troubled girl escape the clutches of an abusive father, but will his interference only cause her more harm?
