As life starts to crack apart, Vancouver poet Jon Ferry is back with another book of inspiring poems. His subjects range from a poetic analysis of the modern McCarthyism of cancel culture to emotional responses to social distancing in the wake of the coronavirus. Follow along as each poem picks apart the relevant details and shows Jon's unique perspective.
We live in volatile times and need all the help we can in coping with them. Vancouver poet Jon Ferry, a former international news reporter and newspaper columnist, uses the haunting image of horses burned to death in a British Columbia wildfire as the symbol of a possible nuclear meltdown or other global convulsion. Ferry shares his love of horses and the great outdoors to explore themes of human frailty -- and strength -- in the face of dramatic change. He suggests we must confront institutional lies and embrace down-to-earth truths about how to live the good life, realizing we are governed by forces beyond our humble understanding. His easy-to-read collection of poems may challenge conventional liberal thinking. But it should provide a healthy measure of comfort to those caught in the world's current political, financial and spiritual turmoil.
Anyone who watches the news knows that the world is going through a period of giddy change and dizzying realignment. And many of us have a tough time digesting it all. Vancouver poet Jon Ferry, a former international news reporter, editor and columnist, looks back more than 700 years to the dislocation felt by Dante when he was exiled from Florence, during another period of great turmoil. Ferry looks ahead to the spread of "raging furnaces" that threaten our politically-divided planet during an era of mass migration, mass media and, sadly, mass hysteria. Ferry also tries to address the moral and spiritual confusion we find ourselves in ... the "dark wood" of the book's title.
This poetry collection is dedicated to all the doctors, nurses and others who work on the front lines in the fight against the pandemic. Author Jon Ferry says they're the true heroes, offering a ray of light that pierces the darkness and plots a path to a more positive future.
This book of poetry by Vancouver poet Jon Ferry explores the confusing nature of the current era. Now known as the Information Age, perhaps in the future it will be called the Age of Intolerance - illiberal, tribal thinking appears to be dominating the public agenda. In "Puzzled" Jon takes a deep look at every level of society, and his insightful perspective helps to untangle the mess that is our current political and environmental landscape.
