Isabel Blossoms is an extremely imaginative twelve-year-old who attends The Lost School located in The Magical Woods in Folden Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. She is excited about helping Miss Post who is the young schoolteacher hired to replace Mr. Leonard. When Miss Post starts to teach, it is obvious to Isabel that she is doing everything wrong. Isabel tries to correct her mistakes, but much to her disappointment, Miss Post doesn't listen to Isabel. The ensuing excursions in The Magical Woods lead to Isabel's disgrace. However, even when everyone else thinks Isabel is a phony she doesn't give up. She is determined to solve the mystery of The Magical Woods.

After reading The Time Machine by Herbert George Wells, Isabel decides to locate a real time machine at the Otter Tail County Fair. She finds what she believes is a damaged time machine, only to discover it is actually a drone. Therefore, she decides to build her own, very special machine to travel through time so that she can identify the culprits who damaged the drone. She and her new friend, Adam, become involved in several exciting adventures as she solves the mysteries that surround the drone.

Anna loved living on the side of a mountain in the middle of Italy. In 1905 this determined Italian lady refused to come to America, but her mother insisted she leave her home and join her husband who lived in the United States. After a depressing stay in a dumpy boarding house in Buffalo, Anna insisted they travel west to Cumberland, Wisconsin. The disappointing Cumberland stop soon gave way to a move to Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they discovered they needed to fight to survive in a rapidly growing industrialized city. Their first home was nothing more than a chicken coop located alongside a railroad track. Over the years Anna gave birth to seven children. Sadly, three died as infants and one died as a toddler. In 1930 her husband committed suicide, practically in front of her. Her three surviving children needed her unending care and support. She didn't have any skills, she didn't have any money and she wasn't about to do anything illegal. She and her children scraped by through the depression, and they struggled through World War II. One by one Anna's children moved to California. At eighty-three years of age Anna was certain she was dying. She wanted to see her children again, but the only way she could get to California was to sit on her pillow in a truck that was speeding almost nonstop across America.

Isabel Blossoms favorite spot to read and dream is under the Whimsical Tree. The tree hides deep within The Magical Woods which is home to the green, fire-breathing dragon, The White Rabbit and Edgar Allen Poe's raven that says 'Nevermore.' When Isabel sits under the Whimsical Tree she frequently has peculiar dreams that subsequently come true. This time, her dreams lead her to the discovery of some gold coins and eventually involve her in a mystery that seems impossible to solve.

Isabel Blossoms is at her best in Graveyard Ghouls. She and her bizarre grandma are about to identify the culprit who, eighty years ago, robbed the bank, killed the marshal and scared the horse that stomped the blacksmith to death. Isabel says: The worst thing when exploring Grandma's spooky old graveyard was watching her pitch magical herbs at the tombstones of those who had displeased her. And, for whatever reason, it seemed that numerous people had displeased Grandma. During this, our latest visit, Grandma and I discover that many gravesites have been mysteriously mutilated. Our search for answers leads to several unanticipated and unexpected surprises and the solution to an age-old crime.

Isabel and her grandma are supposed to ride the Amtrak to Auntie Connie's house. However, something happens, and instead of getting on the shiny train, they find themselves on an old steam locomotive with other passengers who resemble the characters in the books Isabel has read. They travel a short distance before the train is robbed. That's when the adventure begins as Isabel and her grandma discover that the robbery is simply a cover for other types of illegal activities.

In Circus Debut, Isabel Blossoms and her somewhat perplexing Grandma are on an adventure-filled trip to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where they plan to attend a popular play entitled Polly of the Circus. While on a tour of the St. Germain Theatre, Isabel befriends Sylvia who acts the part of Polly in the play. Isabel soon learns that Sylvia and several of the other cast members are entangled in numerous mysterious events. While solving the mysteries of the circus, Isabel and Grandma become part of the play as they participate in the unusual, thrill-packed circus parade. Isabel's curiosity and Grandma's witches' chants and magic herb throwing lead to interesting discoveries which resolve the mysteries for the playgoers and performers.

Isabel Blossoms spends an exciting week solving a mystery for her imaginative Grandma who, much to Isabel's astonishment, pleads for witches to cast spells while she ferociously throws magical herbs into the air. Grandma's whopping imagination, her conviction that she is always right and her love of reading make her a remarkable crime-solving companion for Isabel. This fun-loving fantasy is full of exciting twists and turns.
