Three-year-old Edmonton Rayleigh Worthington III loves exploring his big, beautiful backyard. Every day after breakfast, he grabs his favorite blue blanket in case he decides to rest and a cookie in case he gets hungry, and heads out to see what he can find. One day when he sees something reddish orange in the grass, he soon realizes it is a ladybug. Edmonton has a new friend! After he counts the black spots on her back, Edmonton takes the ladybug home where he feeds her a raisin and falls asleep with her on his bed. As the summer days pass, Edmonton plays with the ladybug, watching her eat aphids and crawl between tall blades of grass. But when the weather becomes cooler, Edmonton soon realizes that he hasn't seen his ladybug friend in a while. After he searches and cannot find her anywhere, he feels a strange pain in his heart. With his grandmother's help, Edmonton learns how to face loss and move forward even though he may never know the "whys" of his loss.In this touching story with an important message, a little boy who loses his best friend does not find a miracle, but instead, acceptance of what is.
