Lily Lawson's poems work on a deep level in my heart. She weaves a tiny story out of exact chosen words that strike at my core.Get a cup of tea or coffee, sit back, and savor her poems. Your day will be better for it. Orange means passion, and for Lily Lawson, that's writing. In this second relatable, contemporary collection of the Rainbow series, the 'non poetry-lovers poet' shares that passion in the way only she can. '... to the artist, the poet, the dreamer, the weaver of words, >'However the reader interprets the intent in these poems, they are all written with Lily's usual word craft, and emotion without sentiment.' '... full of poems that are simple and sincere, heartfelt but without the veil of unnecessary complexity that often obfuscates rather than illuminates, and that puts many readers off.' ' ... this slenderest of volumes will appeal to the writer in all of us.
'My Father's Daughter, a collection of poems ranging from light-hearted to heart-rending captures Lily Lawson's thoughtful observations about life and love.' An excerpt from Autopsy, -If, as time moves on, the words that I have sharedremain with you, and call you backto read them once againmy work is done. 'This is a lovely collection of heartfelt poems which the reader can very much relate to. Easy to read, they leave you with a sense of careful optimism, and a feeling of having met the author and knowing you like her very much.' 'Lily's poems are all so heartfelt and genuine, with insights that make you think "yes, that could apply to my life." ' 'Lily's poetry is both accessible and thought provoking - a difficult balance to achieve, yet masterfully done here.' 'Skilful, moving poems that affect the heart. I was uplifted, touched, and amused.' 'I am not normally a poetry reader--which is sad because I would have missed out on this book.' 'There is something about this collection that feels both simple and pure, and yet crafted.' 'I highly suggest you devour this book of 30+ poems for some feel-goods.' 'Lily Lawson brings us a beautiful collection of poems that are witty, inspiring, and empathetic to what it means to be human....There are so many poems that resonate with a feeling which I previously had no words for....It's poetry that describes universal human experiences, so there's something for everyone.'
'Don't get the glums! Read this.' For ages 3 to 8. Take a tiger, an orangutan, an elephant, an eagle, a rhino, a dragon, a spider, and a turtle. Mix with music till loud - you might want to stand back. A fun addition to any child's bookshelf.' 'The illustrations are gorgeous and can be explored along with the words for even more fun. A great addition to the kids' library!' 'I took this colourful, fun book to share with my grandson (age 6). I expected to read it to him, however he confidently read it to me, stopping to discuss the story as he read. When asked for his opinion, I got 'I loved it!' The illustrator Gustyawan has ensured each page is full of colour with a different, friendly cartoon style animal, playing a new instrument on each page. The accompanying writing, written in a simple, child friendly font (letters correctly formed!) is surrounded by four colourful notes of music. I also liked the way the pictures alternate which side they are on. This is an easy to read, fun book for children. There are some lovely touches of humour in the pictures and by the time we reached the last page, I could imagine the cacophony of noise coming from the band as they all played together.'
'Do yourself a favour: buy this, curl up in your favourite chair and read it, knowing you will come away refreshed.' Life is a complex thing. As social beings, we live side by side, sometimes in not so harmonious circumstances. This book celebrates love and tackling the challenges we face as humans. Control is not always ours. Keep learning.Keep growing.Be yourself.>Life is complicated, yet very simple. 'These poems are layered and more formal -- with an air of William Blake or even Christina Rosetti -- but without pretension or anachronism. They still have the Lawson touch.' 'Lily Lawson has this way of making me weep. And dance. And understand myself a little better. And understand others, perhaps, a little better too.' "Hate vs Love" is the strongest poem in the collection. ... I enjoyed the repeating "p" sound in "powerful punch poisoning" as an attempt to replicate that ongoing bruised feeling when hateful words hit our heart. And following this, "wasting weighty words" is an excellent way to display exhaustion, as the mouth quickly gets tired of forming the "w" sound. Another favorite line of mine is "History is buried deep within me" in "The Vault". Independent Review
