The Lusiad; Or, The Discovery of India, an Epic Poem by Luís de Camões has been regarded as significant work throughout human history, and in order to ensure that this work is never lost, we have taken steps to ensure its preservation by republishing this book in a contemporary format for both current and future generations. This entire book has been retyped, redesigned, and reformatted. Since these books are not made from scanned copies, the text is readable and clear.

The existential pilgrimage recorded in Camões poetry is a search for something as revolutionarily modern as the pursuit of happiness on earth. His majestic epic poem, The Lusiads, centred on the pioneering voyage of Vasco da Gama to the East, which opened the doors of Renaissance Humanism to the world, is as much the celebration of a nation (Portugal) as an auto-biographical representation of his own life. C. M. Bowra, characterises it the epic of Humanism and Schlegel the supreme example of epic poetry. But Camões'' lyric poetry is no less impressive. This bilingual edition, organised by two of the author''s most prominent scholars, provides an ample selection of the lyric and the epic, avoiding constrictions of rhyme and metre. Camões'' poetry helps us to understand the time in which he lived but also our own time.

Em meio ao movimento renascentista, Camões traz de volta os autores clássicos em sua escrita, utilizando gêneros poéticos, eruditas, clássicos grego-romanos como a ode e écloga. Contudo também fez uso dos versos decassílabos introduzidos em Portugal por Sá Miranda em 1527 que também trouxe a estrutura de soneto. Escreveu em português e em castelhano adotando uma postura racional para abordar os temas relevantes de sua época. Seus sonetos são reconhecidos como uma das maiores obras do Classicismo.
