Momaya Press has been giving writers a worldwide forum for fifteen years. Each year, we receive short story submissions from all over the world and bring the best of them together in the prestigious Momaya Short Story Review. "Coming of Age" was the theme for our fifteenth competition. We hoped for equal parts enlightenment to tragedy and were rooting for the protagonist to rise to the occasion. What we found exceeded our expectations. We learned that one can come of age in so many ways, at so many times. Coming of age is not just about growing up. It's about becoming who you are meant to be - or perhaps who you feared you would become.

  • - Short Stories on the Theme of Music
    af Maya Cointreau
    212,95 kr.

Music is the theme for the Momaya Annual Review 2013. The theme for our 10th year elicited the strongest set of stories we have ever received, resulting in the largest collection of short stories we have ever published. Perhaps this is because we all can relate to music. Music is played at all significant events in our lives - both happy and sad. Just hearing a particular tune can set a mood for times to come or bring back memories of good and bad times past. Music is democratic: we all love (some) music. Music is divisive: we all have our own particular tastes. We all have an opinion and a reaction to music. The stories you will read in this edition are some of the finest short stories written in 2013, anywhere in the world. In the First Place story "Lily's Music", a deaf girl's enjoyment of music (through sensing the vibrations) elicits the attention of a dangerous man. The excitement of the golden era of Jazz in Harlem is captured in "The Open Door", which placed second. The Third Place "The Place That Will Keep Us" tells the story of a guitar player's son and daughter who are on the run and running out of options.

The Momaya 2014 Short Story Review brings together the best stories we received out of more than 230 entries from 15 countries. The theme this year was "Captivity", and you'll find stories that cover the full range of emotions and situations the word can evoke. Join us as the stories unfold... Follow along as a young Romanian girl escapes the sex trade, a man brings home a trophy animal only to find the tables turned on him, a pair of young kids discover that frightening appearances are not always what they seem, and a soldier wonders what side he should really be on. Relationships will begin and end. Families will come together and be torn apart. This year's theme will be explored from many angles -- all of them, in their own way, captivating. Momaya Press has been giving writers a forum to express themselves and be heard for over a decade. Submit your story today and join the Momaya community at www.momayapress.com.

  • - Heat

Welcome to the 9th Momaya Annual Review. Heat is theme for the Momaya Annual Review 2012. First Place "Encephalartos" impressed all of the judges. The heady, fertile world of the botannical garden provides a sharp contrast with the dessicated spectre of the protagonist's wife, who somehow manages to loom over the story despite never actually appearing. In Second Place "Whisky and Honey", dark deeds and betrayal mix with tenderness and heroism for a powerful story set in the oppressive heat of an urban summer. The protagonist's personal history is revealed, carefully and cleverly, to build sympathy for a character who at first seems unredeemable in the Third Place "The Interview". The thirteen stories in this collection treat the theme in unexpected and varied ways that deliver an entertaining reading experience. Utopia or Dystopia? 2017 was a year of contradictions. Some of the world's greatest literature have dealt with the theme of dystopia - Atwood's The Handmaiden's Tale, Burgess' The Clockwork Orange, Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, Huxley's A Brave New World, Orwell's 1984, to name just a handful. While utopias seem a bit more thin on the ground, the better known include Morris's News from Nowhere, More's Utopia, Campanella's The City of the Sun and Disney's Tomorrowland. Utopias seem to have ruled the eighteen and nineteenth centuries, while dystopias came into their own after World War One. "Almost without exception, everything society has considered a social advance has been prefigured first in some utopian writing." - David L. Cooperrider, PhD Momaya Press has been giving writers a worldwide forum for fourteen years. Each year, Momaya receives hundreds of short story submissions from all over the world and brings the best of them together in the prestigious Momaya Short Story Review.

"Trading Places" was the theme for the 16th Momaya Press Short Story competition. The stories we received dealt us equal shares of heartbreak and laughter. Yearning, despair, and, quite frequently, compassion. Mistaken identities and stolen moments. What we discovered, in the end, was that we each have something another person wishes for. We all have things to offer, blessings to share. This year's collection of stories teaches us that life is precious, even more so when we learn to see the bigger picture, to look at life through another person's eyes. And really, isn't that what storytelling is all about?Momaya Press provides a international platform for writers from around the globe. For sixteen years, outstanding tales penned by people of all ages and backgrounds have graced our desks. Each year, our judges spend the summer determining which stories will win. It is never easy. Each voice is unique, special, and appreciated. But in the end, only a handful will make it into the prestigious Momaya Short Story Review.

Want to read it in Spanish? Search for La Niña que Podría Bailar en Espacio Exterior.Praise for The Girl Who Could Talk to Computers: "Love love love this book! It is perfect for my small neice, who is always building and doing puzzles -- I can't wait for more books from this authors for kids.""This book is a huge hit at home with at my toy store. Kids love the simple, bright pictures. Grown-ups love the intelligently written rhymes that get across the main message and accomplishments of Grace Hopper's innovative life, without boring or confusing the children. There are sixteen, 4-line stanzas, each accompanied by an illustration. The book is perfect for young kids that are just starting to read, and I really like how it is geared towards inspiring girls, yet the drawings and story is not pink and frilly, so it can just as easily be read to boys, too. The main message of the book is that when you use your head "nothing's impossible, you can do it, you bet!""
